colleagues not vaccinated

It's expected that from 1st August, our office staff will be asked to return to work in the office.

In a small office of 8, 4 have not had the vaccine (ethical, religious and anxiety related reasons given).

Would you br happy to return to work in this situation?

The only person the vaccine protects is the person who has been vaccinated.

Pfizer and AZ vaccines reduce transmission up to 60%

Schrutesbeets · 03/07/2021 22:01

Why don't we all just kill ourselves in one giant worldwide suicide pact, then we won't pose a threat to anyone else ever again!

Wellbythebloodyhell · 03/07/2021 22:03

@TheBullfinch

I'm not the one that's worried, a 50 year old colleague is. He says he wont go back if the other 4 do as he's CEV.

Nothing to do with me really but I just wanted to see how people felt generally.

@shouldistop I see your point! Grin

He needs to find himself a WFH job then doesn't he, because I guarantee if he applies for a job at another workplace, asking for his new colleagues vaccination status would not be given to him
FflosFfantastig · 03/07/2021 22:04

Yes

TrainspottingWelsh · 03/07/2021 22:05

No, not unless you think everyone should run away screaming from younger adults and dc that haven't had the opportunity to be vaccinated yet, or those medically exempt. Then again, most of us that couldn't work from home before vaccinations were available aren't suddenly shitting ourselves at the thought of actually going to work.

I'd think less of them as people, for the reasons @TremoloGreen states, but as a healthy adult that still isn't due the second I wouldn't be concerned for my own health.

Toottooot · 03/07/2021 22:05

Why is it your colleagues right to even know who has been vaccinated? Yes people may have voluntarily offered up their vaccination status but I think people forgot that you do not have to disclose your medical history to colleagues (not yet anyway..)

Eireireland · 03/07/2021 22:05

I thought the vaccine also stopped you passing it on?

Eireireland · 03/07/2021 22:07

Why do we all get the MMR vaccines? I know very few children get it, and everyone gets the vaccine…. ….
CosmicComfort · 03/07/2021 22:07

I’ve worked throughout this whole covid debacle, unvaccinated as we all were for almost a year! First few weeks I was scared, not sleeping, stressed to the eyeballs, not for me, for my vulnerable patients.

You get used to it after a while and stop worrying so much. Life has to get back to normal now, you just take it one day at a time and be pleased you are vaccinated.

FlyingBattie · 03/07/2021 22:07

I have no idea if any of my colleagues are vaccinated or not.
I can only control if I am, really. That's my due diligence.

They’re still researching this.

Words like could likely are very carefully used.
They have tested on animals and are still collecting research data for humans.

Wherediditgo · 03/07/2021 22:08

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. It doesn’t occur to me to even ask.

Caveat though - I’m young(ish) with no health issues, healthy weight and do not live with anyone vulnerable. I’ve had one vaccine so far.

girlmom21 · 03/07/2021 22:10

Realistically it's nobody's business who is and isn't vaccinated. I've worked in my office for the past 10 months. I know the people who've had time off to get their vaccinations, but other than that have no clue who is or isn't vaccinated.

I haven't been vaccinated yet because I'm pregnant, but it makes absolutely no difference as when I first conceived nobody had been vaccinated.

Im probably a lot more conscientious than most people around me about socialising too so I probably pose less of a risk to others than they do to me.

rantymcrantface66 · 03/07/2021 22:11

I've been working in close contact with adults and multiple dc for the last 18 months so no, 4 unvaccinated people would not even register. We are out and about now mixing with strangers who we have no clue about their vaccine status. How do you even know about your colleagues. Do you ask?

bluetongue · 03/07/2021 22:12

It wouldn’t bother me.

As an aside though, which religions don’t believe in vaccines?

Wherediditgo · 03/07/2021 22:12

@Tiddleztheelephant

It sounds fine to me. I have been in work full time since the first of June last year. The people I work with are all unvaccinated, they lick the furniture, blow snot and occasionally wee on me. This sudden spate of "back to the office" threads just makes me smile. You'll be fine op. Grin
Please tell me you work in childcare Grin
sleepwouldbenice · 03/07/2021 22:12

Would only be worried if it was indicative of their overall approach to any further guidance still in place

Beautiful3 · 03/07/2021 22:15

Your vaccination protects you. Why worry about the unvaccinated, they do not affect you, at all. It's their right not to have one, like it's yours to have one.

2bazookas · 03/07/2021 22:15

If you're fully vaccinated, no problem.

rantymcrantface66 · 03/07/2021 22:17

I thought the vaccine also stopped you passing it on?

So why then do double vaccinated people have to isolate on being identified as a possible contact?

Tiddleztheelephant · 03/07/2021 22:22

@Wherediditgo whatever gives you that idea? Wink

SpringRainbow · 03/07/2021 22:26

@Eireireland

I thought the vaccine also stopped you passing it on?
It reduces the likely hood you will pass it on, but doesn’t stop you passing it on completely.

No, it really never crossed my mind whether other people have had the vaccine or not.

Jaxhog · 03/07/2021 22:36

BUT, the vaccine is only 90% protective. Less, if you have a compromised immune system. Speaking as an older diabetic, I'd be concerned, yes.

At the very least, I'd expect them to have a very regular PCR test with all that that implies regarding quarantining.

I've been in work throughout so no it doesn't bother me.
