Travel testing rules after having recently had covid

Hi.
Does anyone know what the rules are re testing for travel when you have recently had covid but are past your isolation time? I've heard you can test positive for a while afterwards even though you're of course not contagious and for example kids are exempt from lateral flow testing for school for 90 days after having had covid . I can't find any info anywhere though on how this translates for tests for travel.
If anyone has any links to official guidance/ rules I would love to see them
Thanks

I am wondering the same thing. Just tested positive and due to go abroad in 3 weeks. Spoke to 119 today and they didn’t know. Can’t find any info online but this must be a common scenario.

Yeah it's strange isn't it that nothing comes up when you search online. We all had covid a couple of weeks ago and due to go away mid August. Sure we will be negative by then but there's an outside chance we might not be!
It will become more of a common scenario when they open up so hopefully might publish some guidance then? Surely it would make sense for the app to display if you've had covid in the last 90 days (confirmed by NHS PCR) as well as displaying your vaccination status.

Yes I wondered about that, I found somewhere - annoyingly can't remember where - that you'd still need to isolate even though it's already known that tests within 60 days of having covid are more likely to be positive.
More of an issue if it's positive when you're actually away - although you can do a video with a lateral flow test which I think are less likely to record false positive post covid, but not 100% sure on that.

I haven't seen any official guidance but previously proof of a recent infection has been sufficient, so for example your test confirmation email or text.

Ah here it is, it's for Scotland but basically if you've had covid within a couple of months of travel and test positive you're stuffed www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-international-travel-quarantine/pages/testing-for-people-travelling-to-scotland/ even more worryingly you could continue to test positive for a number of weeks.

Thanks everyone.
Seems quite muddled doesn't it. I will just hang on and hope that some better guidance comes out with the unlocking this month

If you're in England, you can get a certificate to prove recent infection recovery.

I've just made a thread about this this morning as hasn't seen yours but agree it's so hard finding any official guidance.

I was due to travel to Italy on Tuesday for work but currently have COVID so can't go, my employer wants me to travel ASAP but I can't find anything about travelling after COVID.

DD's friend is in this situation.
She tested positive in her pre departure test - she's worked away for a gap year and was due to return home this summer before university, but tested positive last week. She is having to isolate before she can come home now.

Her airline has told her she needs to test baguette before she can fly home.

And despite the current Covid status she will also need to quarantine in her return.

So she will be isolating for almost a month in total, based on testing negative after this initial isolation period.

Poor girl is only just turned 19y and is currently isolating alone in a foreign country awaiting seeing her parents after several months apart.

The certificate in my link above would allow entry to Spain, great but I can't find anything , nothing!!! About returning to the UK. How do you get round the pre departure test if you've recently been positive? Gov.uk says you just need a test? Crazy .

Tatapie · 05/07/2021 18:15

Need Simon Calder on this!

nowanotherone · 06/07/2021 21:35

Just looked at the link @Tatapie and it says children under 15 can't get the certificate to prove recovery from recent infection.. argh!! I might call my GP and see if they know anything ..

Oh no! That's not good.
Presumably antigen tests would be ok as they are more for current infections but many pcr would pick up an old infection so it's a worry.
I just get the impression that travel is seen as a unnecessary burden by the government and people have no right to expect transparency or fairness sadly.
I hope the GP can advise.
