If your 18year-old DD has had the Pfizer vaccine, has she had side effects?

Before anyone else says it, yes I know that "anecdata" is not the same as a peer reviewed study, but personally I would still be interested in hearing people's experiences (particularly as it apparently didn't occur to anyone doing the original trials to properly research impact on menstrual cycles Hmm).

So I am interested in hearing about actual experiences of any female teenagers who have had the Pfizer vaccine. (If you think experience may have been influenced by an existing medical condition, would be helpful if you would say so.)

No side effects at all. Single dose didn't stop her from catching Covid though.

LizziesTwin · 03/07/2021 14:31

19 no side effects
23 no side effects

irregularegular · 03/07/2021 14:32

19 yr old and no not at all

scochran · 03/07/2021 14:33

19 and had it last Monday. She hasn't mentioned any effects apart from achy arm the following day. Then all forgotten.

LilyPond2 · 03/07/2021 14:37

Thank you. @DillyDot Did your DD get really unwell with Covid or was it a "similar to cold symptoms" type case?

20 - no side effects . Had Covid Oct 2020 .

heathcliffthe2nd · 03/07/2021 14:41

19 year old. No effects apart from a sore arm

H1978 · 03/07/2021 15:01

19 year old heavy arm and slight tiredness but went to school as normal

teaandcustardcreamsx · 03/07/2021 15:15

17, aching arm around four hours after the first and lots of tiredness. Arm hurt for a few days after but was worst the day after. Odd dreams and minor period changes. For the second one I took a prophylactic paracetamol and minor sore arm, no where near as bad as first one. Also halted my period early Hmm

Dd18. Vaccine last Saturday. Sore arm.

Had Covid, mild cough September 2020. Periods all over the place since and painful. Been back to normal last couple of months.

Why do you want to know?

Myalternate · 03/07/2021 15:38

18 yr old niece had her 2nd jab in early June. Her menstrual cycle has been haywire since. Every two weeks on average and heavy flow. She's understandably miserable.

18 year old and majority of her friends all fine - sore arms!

My daughter did faint shortly after but that’s not surprising as she was so worried before! She was absolutely fine a couple of hours later abs down the pub!

LilyPond2 · 03/07/2021 15:53

@campion DD is now (just!) old enough to book vaccine and is looking for me to advise her whether it's the right thing to do. Am struggling with this a bit. My 20- year-old DS was ill for 4 days with vaccine side effects whereas when he had actual Covid (before vaccination) he only had a reduced sense of taste and smell for about 24 hours and wasn't ill at all. I am conscious the JCVI aren't recommending mass vaccination at all for anyone under 18, so DD if DD were any younger, vaccination wouldn't even be offered to her. And the numerous convincing reports of the vaccine messing up people's menstrual cycles is also worrying me. Plus I actually have two people in my close family who have recently got vaccinated then regretted it due to ongoing side effects (one AZ, one flu vaccine) so that has concentrated my mind on the fact that vaccines can sometimes be the cause of ongoing health problems.

NB I am certainly not an anti-vaxxer. Have had two AZ doses myself and am glad I did.

Thanks for explaining. I gather several countries eg US, Israel, Canada and some parts of the EU are already vaccinating under 18s, but obviously UK isn't, apart from clinically vulnerable.

Personally I'd be advising her to have it but, since you wouldn't want any flack if she does feel ill etc, maybe advise her to speak to a gp/hcp about it instead. At 18 she has to inform herself and make decisions accordingly, though the information needs to be from reputable sources, obviously.

TotorosCatBus · 03/07/2021 16:24

Her arm was sore as if she'd be punched there.

KeepingOnKeepingUp · 03/07/2021 16:29

16, no side effects apart from feeling slightly tired the day after.

BlueSurfer · 03/07/2021 16:31

The first Pfizer vaccine usually is a sore arm and second is a bit flu-like and sore arm. It just seems that if you are older you are less likely to have side effects.

PrescriptionOnlyMedicine · 03/07/2021 16:35

DD (17) - sore arm, flu like for a few days after
DNiece (18) - not a sausage - slightly sore arm only.

blissfulllife · 03/07/2021 16:44

18 year old. Sore arm and a touch of the chills.

Sebw · 03/07/2021 16:45

Dd 18 no side effects at all apart from sore arm for 24 hours

DillyDot · 03/07/2021 23:54

@LilyPond2

Thank you. *@DillyDot* Did your DD get really unwell with Covid or was it a "similar to cold symptoms" type case?
No, very mild, just cold symptoms for a few days (runny nose and headache, no cough). If she hadn't thought to do a LFT I think she would have written it off as a cold and probably given it to half of our town! (NB Positive result was later confirmed by PCR)
ZZTopGuitarSolo · 04/07/2021 03:05

17 and 19yo daughters both had both Pfizer shots. Only side effect was a sore arm.

Cameleongirl · 04/07/2021 03:09

DD (16) has had both doses of Pfizer (we're in the US). Sore arm after the first; felt off for 24 hours after the second, as if she was going down with a cold. She rested at home that day and was fine after that. I've heard that several of her friends had a similar reaction.

nex18 · 04/07/2021 08:59

Dd is 18, she had her vaccine then a couple of busy days, then slept solidly for about 18 hours and was fine after.
