Am I going to die? I'm 28 and feel fine. Lateral flow test. Strong positive came up straight away. Only tested before being around grandparents. I'm really very scared. I was on a busy train Wednesday so think I must have picked it up then.

No I don't think you're going to die. You need a PCR to confirm

Northernsoullover · 03/07/2021 13:30

Highly unlikely that you will shuffle off this mortal coil. Have you booked a PCR?

TreaslakeandBack · 03/07/2021 13:31

No.
Are you vaccinated? This will help reduce the severity of symptoms but even if not the likelihood of it being anything more than a few days of flu like symptoms is low in a 28 year old.

Hangingtrousers · 03/07/2021 13:32

Calm. Isolate. Book a PCR. Contact close contacts to isolate.

Itslava · 03/07/2021 13:32

Could this be a false positive then? Does that happen? I've ordered a home PCR test because I can't drive.

I've had 1 Pfizer Vaccine 8 weeks ago

Unlikely to be a false positive but you still need to confirm with a PCR.

CaramelWaferAndTea · 03/07/2021 13:34

It’s unlikely to be a false positive but still they recommend a PCR to confirm, also lets them track variants.

Well done for doing a lateral before seeing your grandparents.

Lazierdays · 03/07/2021 13:35

No, you are more likely to get hit by lightening than die of covid at 28.
Even if you have underlying conditions, unless you are already seriously ill, then it is unlikely you will get serious symptoms.

Have you had any vaccines? Even less likely if so.

Get a Pcr to check and isolate and take it easy if you start to feel unwell.

schoolahead · 03/07/2021 13:35

Don't panic. See what PCR says but isolate until then. I had it last year and was also v concerned (age 32) but had v v v mild symptoms. If it wasn't for no taste or smell I wouldn't have even known I was ill or had it. Are you vaccinated?

schoolahead · 03/07/2021 13:35

Sorry just seen you've had one dose. It should help lessen the severity of symptoms

Lazierdays · 03/07/2021 13:36

That’s really good too, one vaccine offers good protection. You will be fine.

careerchangeperhaps · 03/07/2021 13:38

I'm sure you'll be fine. You may even stay asymptomatic. Well done for testing as a precaution.

BrownEyedSquirrel · 03/07/2021 13:39

I had hardly any symptoms and I'm 29. Slightly runny nose and muscle aches that never got bad. I only tested as my DP was positive.
For most our age group with no underlying medical issues you will either be asymptomatic (no symptoms at all) or experience mild symptoms.

Itslava · 03/07/2021 13:40

Seeing that second line really panicked me. Thank you for all of the reassurance.

At 28 very little risk. The average age of death is 82 so unless you have reversed your numbers!

rc22 · 03/07/2021 13:58

Have the pcr to confirm. You'll be fine. Eat well, have plenty of fluids and take things easy but there's a fair chance that at your age you'll be asymptomatic.

DarceyDashwood · 03/07/2021 14:03

On day 4 after testing positive here. Try not to worry. Lots of fluids and rest as others have said. Am sure you will be absolutely fine. Find something comforting to binge watch - I’ve just started Golden Girls on Disney + Flowers

CommanderBurnham · 03/07/2021 14:18

How are you feeling OP?
Get a PCR, book an online shop, put some paracetamol and your favourite juices in.
If you get symptoms, order a pulse ox but don't take it out of the box- you won't need it but just in case, and you can send it back.

Hope you don't suffer.

BadgerFace · 03/07/2021 14:23

I am on day 6 after a positive test last Sunday. If it’s any comfort although I have not felt very well, it’s been manageable despite two small children and a stressful week at work. The worst feelings seems to come and go in waves and were much better by day 4. Rest, fluids, take paracetamol every 3 hours even if feeling okay.

BadgerFace · 03/07/2021 14:24

The most annoying thing is having lost my sense of taste, especially as kind friends keep dropping off tasty treats!!

Cookiesandscones · 03/07/2021 15:16

I agree with @BadgerFace I am day 4 and feel a lot better than I did yesterday, day 3 was definitely the worst day I was tired and just generally fluey and yes I felt poorly and couldn’t be bothered, I still managed to make lunch and dinner for all of us yesterday and I am 36 with severe health anxiety, I thought I would be a wreck but keeping calm and keeping on top of paracetamol helps

BarbarianMum · 03/07/2021 16:16

We all die one day OP but I wouldnt start giving away your possessions just yet. Smile Put your feet up, drink plenty and distract yourself by planning the rest of your summer instead. You'll be able to enjoy it without worrying about catching COVID now.
