Test DS if I'm positive

Bobothemojo · 03/07/2021 10:20

I tested positive yesterday after feeling awful and having a temperature.

Ds missed school yesterday and Thursday as obviously isolating and will now not be back until he's finished his 10 days.

Mine started with sneezing. DS started sneezing yesterday but hasn't got any worse, no other symptoms. As I'm positive he is likely as well.

Question is do I test him? If he gets a positive test he shuts the school bubble when he'll be isolating anyway?

Everyone in the house should have a pcr if you are positive. As his symptoms started Friday and he was in school Wednesday his bubble will need to shut.

fluckityfluckfluck · 03/07/2021 10:22

If his pcr is positive that is - hope you are feeling okay

JustABloodyMinute · 03/07/2021 10:39

This happened to us. Child in class was tested a few days after their parent tested positive. Whole bubble was sent home as a result. Child might not have been positive at the time the parent was tested (bubble wouldn't have had to isolate), we will never know. I tend to think if you are testing due to symptoms you should test whole family at the same time. It might prevent 30 other children from having to isolate.

ChequerBoard · 03/07/2021 10:41

Of course you bloody get him tested. You can't just send him into school when you know you are already positive and he is exhibiting the same symptoms.

I don't think OP is suggesting sending him back to school chequers?

Yes I would have him tested OP

Sunnyfreezesushi · 03/07/2021 10:47

Your DS has been home 2 days isolating so has not been at school since Wednesday? That might not close the school bubble. He might have to isolate for longer though. Some people I know are now testing DCs with colds because positive PCR in last 6 months and recovered= Kids can go on holiday without quarantine to certain countries. So there is so much confusing stuff going on. Personally, I would test him because I would want to know in case he gets ongoing fatigue etc and might need GP input later on.

Bobothemojo · 03/07/2021 10:47

Sorry no I'm definitely not sending him into school! I'm positive so he needs to isolate.

He was last in school 46hrs before he first showed symptoms (of sneezing he's got no classic ones)

If he were to test positive the whole bubble shuts which seems a bit OTT when he was off for almost 48hrs before he sneezed

So at the moment he does not have actual listed Covid symptoms. In your situation, I would get him tested in a few hours so it does not shut the school bubble.
That way you will at least know if he is indeed positive or not.
And to the righteous on this thread, many many people are not testing their DCs even if actual Covid symptoms.

She wasn't going to send him into school, she made it quite clear that he would be isolating, so that was absolutely no need for your incredibly rude post.

Order the test and it probably won't be carried out until tomorrow. Why 46 hours? That seems very specific!
At DD's primary school, there was a positive case and only close contacts are isolating but the whole year group is shut until the 12th. DD is not a close contact so she is not required to isolate, but some are Since then there have been 3 more cases but the head says they don't have to name close contacts or isolate people as a result of those cases (although those 3 children will isolate longer), so it may be that the bubble doesn't need to close. Good luck.

Bobothemojo · 03/07/2021 11:18

@Sunnyfreezesushi that's a good idea. He hasn't got Covid symptoms so that doesn't need to shut the bubble.

@ChequerBoard sorry if I'm not making myself clear, feeling pretty unwell and my head is super fuzzy.

If this is what it's like after I'm single jabbed so glad I didn't catch it before Sad

He is isolating for 10days. OP is just wondering if she should get him tested too. She's not going to send him into school whilst she is positive, that's why he is isolating for 10days. But yes OP you should get your child tested too. Your question was perfectly reasonable. Hope you recover soon 🙏
Wigeon · 03/07/2021 14:19

When DD tested positive last week the notification says that all household members should get a PCR, whether they had symptoms or not. So you can legitimately take him for a PCR. If it’s positive, the isolation only starts from the date of the test if he hadn’t had cough/fever/loss of smell or taste before then, and the close contacts are in the 48 hours before, so it’s quite possible his bubble won’t need to shut.

ButteringMyArse · 03/07/2021 14:24

I wouldn't be testing him until doing so wouldn't close the bubble.

TreaslakeandBack · 03/07/2021 14:24

IMO test but leave it 48 hours after he was at school so he doesn’t take the bubble out. It’s not fair at this stage in the term.
We have to start prioritising children over Covid.

jajabanks · 03/07/2021 14:29

Sneezing was a symptom for two of us in our house, that's how we started. I believe it's one of the delta variant symptoms. Two others in our house have it too hut with different symptoms and one hasn't caught it at all 🤷

Dustyhedge · 03/07/2021 18:05

When we all had it I didn’t test my completely asymptomatic one year old. She hadn’t been in nursery for 3 days and we were all stuck in anyway so it didn’t seem to make any difference really. In your circs you probably should test because it might make a difference re the school bubble and he does have something re the sneezing.

LillethCrane · 03/07/2021 18:19

Yea I would test him as if he is positive, his peers should be notified. This is the only way to stop a further spread. Good luck!

Wherediditgo · 03/07/2021 18:30

I would leave it a day or two before testing. If he is positive then it won’t shut the bubble?

NichyNoo · 03/07/2021 18:56

I wouldn’t test him. He’s isolating anyway and unfair that the rest of class miss 10 days of school and end of term activities.

Unknowingly spreading Covid around the class because OP's son infected some classmates on his last day in school while infectious, is somewhat worse.

OP he has displayed the same symptom of sneezing that you had when you first developed Coronavirus. Unfortunately, he is also very likely to have it and was potentially infectious when he was last in school. He needs to be tested asap and if positive the only responsible action is to inform the school and close the bubble.

froggybiby · 03/07/2021 19:22

I still don't understand why the priority for some is not to shut the bubble ...surely as we can be highly infectious before displaying symptoms, what matters is to get tested as soon as possible & help prevent the spread.

ButteringMyArse · 03/07/2021 19:36

Because other people don't share your subjective opinion of what's most important.
