Track and trace alerts - non refundable appointment

Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this

Just looked over at my phone in the middle of the night to see a sodding track and trace alert that has popped up but expires at 2359 tonight - it was from contact on 23 June

I've got no symptoms and quickly did a LFT which was negative.

This morning, I had arranged to have my hair cut and coloured. Had organised someone to come and sit with the dog etc.

Just looked up both cancellation policies and I can't cancel either without paying in full because I have less than 24 hours notice fgs. Where do I stand with this in terms of legal rights do you know?

Tbh with one day left and a negative LFT I would happily get my hair cut but of course the hairdresser wouldn't want that I don't think and I won't be able to check in!

I'm with the majority on here. Ignore it and don't answer any calls until after the appointment.
The scenes at Wembley, Wimbledon, G7 etc all show that life is getting back to normal.

Imnothereforthedrama · 03/07/2021 08:47

I’d go to the hairdressers you didn’t see the notification it never happened.
Honestly this is what annoys me about isolation it’s days sometimes before your told .
if you can’t get it touch with people quick to tell someone to isolate for a matter of hours is pointless in my opinion.

Imnothereforthedrama · 03/07/2021 08:50

Also to add when my dd caught Covid I’d already isolated for a couple of days with her waiting for the test but she told test and trace the wrong day . So on my app it was like 12 days isolated I ignored and carried on with my life on day 11 so it’s not always accurate.

What a shame that you dropped your phone down the back of the sofa last night before bed and couldn't find it this morning and went about your day without it. Obviously you found it when you got home and found out you had been supposed to be isolating, but no harm done really.

KateTheEighth · 03/07/2021 09:10

Leave your phone at home, take a book and enjoy your appointment

Comefromaway · 03/07/2021 09:19

Go to the appointment. The app is not fit for purpose.

I’m so glad my phone is too old to support it.

MilduraS · 03/07/2021 09:33

I'm going to go against the general consensus and suggest you don't go. My colleague received an alert on Monday morning to say she'd been in contact with someone on 24th. She doesn't know the person but think it's from being at a restaurant last Saturday. Yesterday she woke up feeling a bit off and has had a positive PCR test. She's had both jabs. Hopefully the hairdressers will be understanding. I know mine would rather refund for a genuine isolation case than risk the staff coming down with covid and having to close.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/07/2021 09:37

@WB205020

Normally I follow the rules but as *@Theredjellybean* says, after football, Wimbledon, the g7, merkal coming again, etc. It’s ridiculous. I’m not saying we should do whatever we want but if it’s ok for the above I don’t see why we are expected to take things as seriously any more. Time to get back to a normal life again.
What about the hairdresser? Do they get to make a choice whether to take the risk or break rules?

Covid isn’t something that can be risked assessed for one person alone.

finkirt · 03/07/2021 09:51

Just because you don't agree with the rules doesn't mean you should ignore them.

Just because others break the rules doesn't mean you should ignore them.

Hairdressers are poorly paid and have many clients. IF, and I accept the chances are low, you develop Covid you will force countless others to isolate because you decided to ignore the instruction to isolate.

cherrytreecottage · 03/07/2021 09:59

Another rule follower here! However, like someone has already said the contact was on 23rd June and you've been going out as normal until last night.
I was also informed that the app pings to anyone who has been in the same location within a 24 hour period - so someone may have been there at 8am and you went at 7pm; you'd still get a ping even though you weren't in any contact with the person.
Most people I know have turned off the alerts and 3 people I know were physically contacted by T&T - they obviously isolated so I think if it's genuine contact you'd have been contacted personally?!

I'd go if I were you!

Also; the app says they apparently contacted you before, did it? Have you managed to check in anywhere else since then? I have visions of alarms going off if you try to check in once you've had an alert Grin

whataboutgus · 03/07/2021 10:21

I would delete the app, keep the appointment and never ever discuss this with anyone else

Imnothereforthedrama · 03/07/2021 10:39

Yeah I get peoples points about following the rules but it’s day 10 and unless the op woke up feeling unwell then I’d still go. The app can be wrong too .

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 03/07/2021 10:51

What @whataboutgus said is a good plan. And I am a massive rule follower. It's such a dilemma and I would still feel bad though.
Obviously if it popped up and told you to isolate for more than just hours, I would do it. Or if you knew where you might have been in contact. But unless it's track n trace phoning you, you will be ok ignoring it as they can't trace you on just the app unless you've clicked and booked a test from the alert.

UnChatNoir · 03/07/2021 11:02

*Just because you don't agree with the rules doesn't mean you should ignore them.

Just because others break the rules doesn't mean you should ignore them.*

There is no rule that says you have to isolate after a app alert so no rules broken.

And if the rules dont apply to those making them then why should rest of us follow.

towers14 · 03/07/2021 12:49

Delete the app, go to hairdressers, don't give it another thought.

LittleMissSneezy · 03/07/2021 14:00

Thanks all

Just for the record I am a 100% rule follower and have been religiously complying with everything!

I have no symptoms still - and went back at my diary and looked at the 23 June and the only time I was out, I had happened to sit down and have a coffee at around 9am for about 20mins rather than getting a takeaway so had checked in then and that was it.

I did another LFT this morning before I left for the hairdresser which was negative and by the time of my appointment at lunch time, 10 days had officially passed so I left my phone and went. And as mentioned I'm double vaccinated and have had Covid (before then).

So I honestly feel that even if the Covid police came after me Blush that theoretically it was after 10 days and I did 2 LFTs which I took pictures of just in case!

looptheloopinahulahoop · 03/07/2021 14:09

Ignore the app and go the hairdressers. I have the app but after all the stories on here of people being pinged by other people walking past their kitchen windows or cars, I switched off contact tracing and only use it to check into places. So in your situation I wouldn't know I'd fleetingly (or longer) been within a few metres of someone infected and would go to the hairdresser regardless.

I don't have to keep switching contact tracing off, once it's off it's off.

As for being a rule follower, there are no rules around the contact tracing app.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 03/07/2021 14:10

Oh I see you did go - good and hope your hair looks great! Switch the contact tracing bit off and it won't happen again!

ButteringMyArse · 03/07/2021 14:19

The OP isn't ignoring the rules, because no rule requiring people to adhere to app notifications exists.
Golden2021 · 03/07/2021 15:07

I'm glad you want op! Do you look and feel fabulous?

NotSoLongGoodbye · 03/07/2021 15:11

Just go to your appointment.. Delete the app.

CharlotteRose90 · 03/07/2021 15:12

I’d go sorry. The app is probably wrong and it’s ridiculous to ping with less then 24 hours to go .

LittleMissSneezy · 03/07/2021 15:52

@Golden2021 thanks yes it was v needed! And my daughter's graduation in a week or so so really wanted my hair colour done before then!
