Isolation Help?

whataballbag · 02/07/2021 22:40

So I've just read this, which I had no idea about!

DS tested positive on Monday, but only started with a snotty nose and slight cough on Wednesday/Thursday, does this mean the 10 days starts AGAIN from there?

Why make it so confusing!

Yes you do have to extend the isolation Sad

whataballbag · 02/07/2021 22:42

What the bloody hell is the point in a symptomatic/pre symptomatic testing then when it means you're stuck in for longer.

Especially when you're struggling to make ends meet with 2 weeks off work unpaid in the first place

Yeah so the first day of isolation is the day after the first sign of symptoms Sad

whataballbag · 02/07/2021 22:46

Do I count a bit of snot and a few coughs as symptoms then?

Or do I start again if he gets a fever or a proper cough?

No, the second section is only if you're self-isolating because of contact with a person who's tested positive.

So, he can continue his 10 days from Monday, because he was already positive on that day.
However, if you've had contact your 10 days starts from Wednesday.

whataballbag · 02/07/2021 22:48

It's about as clear as mud

I know there's people in so much worse positions than I am but I'm a single parent, with bugger all to my name, stuck in my house with a 3 year old and 7 year old, my mental health is already shot to shit and I'm just right back at the bloody beginning it feels like

I agree with @girlmom21 - it starts with day of symptoms if you are already self isolating but not yet tested positive.

Your ds had a positive pcr on Monday so his isolation starts from then

whataballbag · 02/07/2021 23:14

But that's specifically for people who have already tested positive? Either way it doesn't matter as he won't be going anywhere without me anyway

You may as well get yourself a pcr test tomorrow if you can because if you develop symptoms in the next 8 days, or your other child does, you'll have to start again so at least if you're asymptomatic you'll know as early on as possible.

Speak to your council and see what support you can get financially

whataballbag · 02/07/2021 23:22

But judging by that, if we test positive but then get symptoms a few days down the time the clock starts again anyway?

I know there's worse things to be concerned about but it's a right shitter isn't it. Especially for the kids

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 02/07/2021 23:48

No, if you test positive you don't have to start your 10 days again when you develop symptoms.

Your 10 days from the start of symptoms only applies if you were self-isolating because of contact.

If you test positive your 10 days starts from the day of the positive result and won't need to restart again for any reason.

It is shit for the kids

whataballbag · 03/07/2021 09:07

I just spoke to track and trace and they said it's definitely from the positive test even if symptoms start a few days later

orlaquiver · 03/07/2021 09:52

Yes if you think about it, that makes sense. 10 days from when testing positive- the start of symptoms doesn't make you more "Covid-y". He had Covid when tested on Monday, he doesn't have more Covid on Wednesday. The advice says after 10 days he is clear. The cough may linger but if he still has a temperature after 10 days then he will need to stay in for 48 hours after it goes.

whataballbag · 03/07/2021 10:15

Thanks, I just have to follow what T & T say I guess they're the best places to advise! 2 different advisors confirmed it.

And to top it off my dads just been taken into hospital because he can't breathe (not covid related, he's still shielding and has COPD and heart failure). Icing on the bloody cake.

I'm ranting sorry but I'm just not having a great week!!

10 days from positive test surely

danni0509 · 03/07/2021 11:47

Yes, 10 days from positive test.

Imagine testing positive doing your time then getting symptoms on your last day, I know I sure as hell wouldn’t be re starting the clock.

That's what I thought
