vaccinating children

We have a huge number of children isolating in our local schools due to positive covid cases most of these positive kids are only very mildly ill or asymptomatic. However it has a huge impact on the other children. I know their is talk of vaccinating the children but if they only suffer mild symptoms what is the point of this???? They are rarely hospitalised. I also know 3 adults with covid at the moment who are all double jabbed but all only mildly ill so if the vaccine doesn't seem to completely stop you catching it surely vaccinating children is a waste of time. Opinions???

My two primary school age children have had it. My youngest had a headache and my oldest had no symptoms, and she was higher risk. She was totally unaffected. Based on that I am so torn

My eldest is nearly 16 and due to start as specialist college course in September - she's really looking forward to it but won't know a soul and is looking forward to making new friends and travelling to our nearest city each day. Its a big adventure and next step for her.

My youngest is due to start secondary in September.

Both of them want to be vaccinated mainly to avoid homeschooling in their first weeks and months at their new school/ college, so they can settle in properly and get to know their cohort. DD's course has a practical element too, it'd be a bit pants remotely.

To avoid the potential long term risks of having covid, because if they are not vaccinated they will probably get covid sometime. Markers of damage to blood vessels have been observed in young people who apparently had a mild case. No-one knows if the damage is long term or not.

They are not all mildly ill either and it would also protect clinically vulnerable children and adults.

The virus can also continue to mutate i it continues to spread.

Whether the benefits outweigh risks is debatable, there are still benefits.
