How long after a positive PCR can you travel abroad?

DH has tested positive and we're meant to be traveling abroad in 20 days. Lots of talk on the websites about being able to get in to the country we're going to if you are doubly vaccinate OR have a negative test. Nowhere, even on the countries own website, does it say how long after a positive test you are considered safe to travel again. Any ideas?

Think he would need to be doubly vaccinated or have negative PCR. The recovered thing is EU only i think

lborolass · 02/07/2021 19:03

Based on the other threads I've seen about travel it can be hard to find out all the rules and requirements when you know which country it is. No one's going to be able to tell you if you don't say the country.

BouleBaker · 02/07/2021 19:39

Ok, he is doubly vaccinated and the country is Greece. Very hard to find out this particular information

Just checked Greece trsvel advice. As long as he us symptom free, you're good to go.

TheVanguardSix · 03/07/2021 08:46

Don't you have to take a PCR test anyway before you fly (proof of negative test required)? I think wherever you travel, OP, you won't be able to board a plane without proof of a negative PCR test (privately booked. NHS tests aren't accepted).

TheVanguardSix · 03/07/2021 08:49

Sorry, just to add, even though he is vaccinated, he WILL have to show proof of recovery before entering Greece. So he will need to book that private PCR test. Proof of double vaccination means you actually don't need to do the PCR test prior to entering, but since he's positive, he will have to now do the PCR test to show a negative status upon entry.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 08:53

The issue would then be that you arent supposed to test within 90 days of a positive test as it can pick up fragments of the old infection and show positive even when you are no longer contagious

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 08:57

Actually it says he can show his positive Test result as proof of recovery or show he is double vaccinated

Greece will also accept proof of recovery from COVID-19 for entry. While the NHS does not provide proof of recovery records, evidence of a positive COVID-19 PCR test result taken between 2 to 9 months of your travel dates can be used.

Was just about to post this^
LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/07/2021 13:10

Though maybe as the definition is 2 to 9 months they may not accept if its less than that.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 13:12

But he can show his vaccination status instead then

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 13:14

Arrivals from the UK must provide either: proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, undertaken within the 72 hour period before arrival into Greece; proof of a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test from an authorised laboratory, undertaken within the 48 hour period before the scheduled flight; or proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations completed at least 14 days before travel (seeDemonstrating your COVID-19 vaccination status). Travellers with proof of either are exempted from the need to self-isolate on arrival to Greece.

xyzandabc · 03/07/2021 13:16

But he won't be able to show proof of recovery in the form of a positive test taken between 2 and 9 months of the date of travel. Because he's just taken the test and they travel in less than 3 weeks.

However it does look like as long as he shows proof of double vaccine then that's fine for Greece.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 13:19

He doesn't need to show proof of recovery if he has proof of his 2 vaccinations

Blinky21 · 03/07/2021 14:13

You take another test when he's negative surely, since the proof is a negative test? So after the 10 days isolation retest

TreaslakeandBack · 03/07/2021 14:18

It’s getting back in that’s the problem surely? He may still test positive on the pre flight and days 2 (and 8 if still amber) tests to enter UK?
You can test positive for up to 90 days.
Looked into this a lot then admitted defeat and going to Devon.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/07/2021 14:19

Sorry I'm half asleep so completely missed he was vaccinated. So the vaccine status should be fine.

They are random testing at airport arrivals though so you may need to explain that you can't retest as its been less than 90 days. Though not sure if they're using pcr or lateral flow though.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/07/2021 14:19

I'll ask cousin.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 14:23

You can test positive for up to 90 days after a positive test even though you are no longer contagious
BouleBaker · 03/07/2021 17:33

This is the problem. He has the vaccination records, but a PCR test would still be positive. I don't want to go if Greece don't think we should, but it's not clearly defined.

Why does he need a PCR?
