As the title says, if a parent receives a letter from school saying the child needs to self isolate, is it legally binding?

OP posts:

It's the same as being contacted by Test and Trace, I understand, so if that's legally binding then yes.

Northernsoullover · 02/07/2021 17:46

Where I've, test and trace work with the school to identify who needs to isolate and the school informs them. Not t and t. Whether its legally binding or not I don't know but why wouldn't you isolate? I know its not a tempting proposition but there is a risk.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 02/07/2021 17:48

No idea. But not going to sit at home anymore.

Rockitrosie · 02/07/2021 17:51

Only people on mumsnet seem to care about this stuff at this point.

What do you think they’re going to do, arrest you?

Dd has been isolating all week and we’ve been out for a walk (stayed away from others) every day - bollocks if I’m going to keep her inside for another moment.

Headteacher here. The Department for Education is very clear about who should isolate when we have a positive case. Our local police have issued some kind of warning to parents who are letting their isolating kids play out, followed by some kind of caution, followed by a £1000 fine.

Some kind of warning and some kind of caution, shouldn't that be some kind of fine?

They don't have the power to enforce all this locking up of children and everyone knows it.

Exactly, Rock.

I dunno but my son is self isolating atm and I took him out for a bike ride today- didn’t speak to anyone else.
If someone wants to send the corona police round they’re welcome

There is zero risk to other people of me taking my son for a walk or cycle ride when a. He isn’t ill and b. We will keep away from other people

No
RoseAndRose · 02/07/2021 18:35

Yes, they are acting with the same authority as T&T

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/07/2021 19:41

Do track and trace actually you if your child has to isolate because of a school case?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/07/2021 19:42

Contact you that should say.

danni0509 · 02/07/2021 19:47

Whether it’s legal or not, I ignored it when it happened to my ds in October.

He was barely in the classroom anyway so was almost sure he’d had no direct contact with said pupil.

You can take the child isolating on the school run with you to take siblings in (ds old school said to do this) but then the isolating child has to go back home and stay in all day. Whatever.

No they don’t.

No, because the school act on their behalf. They work alongside PHE to provide the self isolation notices.

Our letters, came via the LEA, always made this clear.

Our school have specifically said we can’t do this and that we must make “private arrangements”with other families to make sure that siblings can go to school. What an absolute farce
Teateaandmoretea · 02/07/2021 22:00

why wouldn't you isolate?

Must be the daftest question/ comment of the day.

Who knows OP but looking at our local area the police are going to be busy for sure.
