Saliva tests

After much debate on here I have decided that if I am to attend an interview in a school I will need to do a saliva test. Where can I get a saliva test from? My interview is on Tuesday so I will need it to come in time. I don’t want to miss out on a job all because of a test.

I don't think they exist? There was a trial last summer but not seen anything since, so I assumed they hadn't 'passed' the trial.

bookish83 · 02/07/2021 08:08

They exist for NSH staff (unsure who else)

LAMP tests. We do them weekly.

Surely you can do a normal lateral flow OP?

bookish83 · 02/07/2021 08:08

NHS*

ItsSnowJokes · 02/07/2021 08:08

I haven't seen them available in the UK. China have anal tests but that's the only other ones other than blood tests I have seen.

Can you not just do a nasal swab? If you got the job in the school you do realise the likelihood of you having to test twice weekly?

covidcloser · 02/07/2021 08:17

I remember your thread. They didn't ask you to do a saliva test, they asked you to do a lateral flow test. I'm not sure how, even if it was possible, showing up with the wrong test would benefit your prospects.

Bellasblankexpression · 02/07/2021 08:22

Why does it have to be a saliva test? Bizarre

shouldistop · 02/07/2021 08:25

The school asked for a lateral flow test though.

overthethamesfromyou · 02/07/2021 08:27

Just Google test centres near you and go in and pick up a box

Howshouldibehave · 02/07/2021 08:28

Why have you decided to do a saliva test? Where will you even get it from?!

Everyone who works in the school will have been asked to do lateral flow tests twice weekly. Why on earth wouldn’t you do those instead?

ColettesEarrings · 02/07/2021 08:28

We don't have publicly available saliva tests in the UK. If you're not prepared to do the lateral flow test they asked for then then isn't the job for you.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/07/2021 08:28

My ds does saliva tests but at his uni in a testing centre they have there, I don't think they're widely available to anyone yo do at home. If you get that job in a school( if you're the poster from the other thread about tests) you will need to do twice weekly LF tests and log them . properly.

What is wrong with you people being so aggressive. I’m not familIar with all of this. I’m trying to find an alternative and being slated again.

On your previous thread people told you you'd have to do twice weekly lateral flows if you got the job. If you can't do them then the job isn't for you.
I wouldn't want to do them either frankly. I would if I absolutely had to but I'd avoid if possible.

Howshouldibehave · 02/07/2021 08:34

I didn’t see a previous thread so am not slating you again.

You are suggesting doing something that is not usual and will be hard to procure, hence the replies.

Can you explain why you won’t do a LFD test?

I haven't seen other threads but you just need to go and pick up a free box of lateral flow tests Smile

LAMP saliva tests are not for the public but they do exist

ApolloandDaphne · 02/07/2021 08:42

I don't think people are being aggressive, they are telling you there is currently no alternative to LFT that can be obtained by the general public. Saliva tests are still in the trial stages. If you can't do a LFT then this job is not going to be for you. I don't like them either and would choose not to do something that required them on a regular basis.

Punxsutawney · 02/07/2021 08:43

Ds is autistic and refused to do lateral flow tests. His sixth form wanted him to test, so they suggested he spit in a cup and I test that instead. That's how Ds does his LFTs now.

goneroguetoday · 02/07/2021 08:49

@Punxsutawney how do you know it works? I understand OP. I can't do lateral flow and am desperate for an alternative

Punxsutawney · 02/07/2021 08:55

We just went with what school said ( I think they had sought advice on this before telling us to do it) and what Ds was willing to do. They were not keen on him returning without doing a test but he has severe difficulties with sensory processing.

It has always given a negative result and not once have we got a void test. So I'm guessing it works....

goneroguetoday · 02/07/2021 08:58

@Punxsutawney problem is you always get a negative test if you just put the testing fluid in. I've never been able to get a proper swab so never trusted my tests. Now I have symptoms I am so lost as to what to do. I've had to buy a proper saliva test online

Howshouldibehave · 02/07/2021 09:26

I’m not sure that shows they work!

They pick up less than half of all positives.

We were talking about this at work-all of my household/colleagues households have been doing them twice weekly since February and we have got no void tests and no positive tests. Yet several of those people have had symptoms and treated positive on PCR tests (whilst still continuing to test negative on LF tests).

I have no faith that they do anything at all.

Summerhope1 · 02/07/2021 10:23

Saliva test is available in some city, I think the test capacity is not good. DS school was said to switch to Saliva test but didn't in the end, as the capacity problem.
