Daily vaccine numbers dipping

Do we know why daily vaccine numbers have been lower lately? Does it mean we won't hit the target to give all adults 1st vacc by 19 July? Sorry if there's a thread about this all ready, I couldn't find one.

Supply issues? Pure guess but I do know Pfizer is in demand globally and the manufacture of it can’t keep up with demand.

nordica · 01/07/2021 20:06

Take up has likely slowed down now that booking has been open to everyone 18 and over for a while? They've now given a first dose to 85% of the adult population and the final 15% will include all those who have been eligible for weeks/months now and not taken up the offer.

I do remember Matt Hancock specifically saying the government had a duty of care to make the vaccine available for all adults, but if people don't take it up then it's a different situation - those people will have to take their chances with covid.

Bordois · 01/07/2021 20:07

The pool of people who actually want the vaccine is now much smaller

TheVampiresWife · 01/07/2021 20:19

Fewer people need vaccinating?

campingfever · 01/07/2021 20:20

Yes, those are the things I've been guessing. I just thought that all the reports of the rush of 18-30s booking their vacc might have translated into bumper vacc stats weeks, but it looks like the opposite. So maybe supply issues is most likely? Doesn't seem to be talked about though

Pfizer supplies are under pressure but we are going to swap some with Israel—use vaccine they can’t use in time now and give them what we ordered later on when they can use it.

85% with first vaccination is incredible Smile

Second doses are way down because 8-12 weeks ago we were giving very few first doses.

Most people who want (and can have) a vaccine have had one, so first doses are tapering off as demand does.

In fairness, 85% uptake is significantly better than I expected.

TitsInAbsentia · 01/07/2021 20:29

85% is brilliant considering the amount of people who want more vaccine evidence/anti-vax/covid deniers there seem to be around. We were never going to hit 100%

Indigopearl · 01/07/2021 20:42

It is a bit concerning how it varies geographically. Has anyone seen the zoe map of vaccine uptake? Uptake looks low in London - generally around 50% to 60% with one dose, 30% to 40% with two.

It’s not 85%.

They are using unreliable data for that figure.

Look at the local level. No county higher than 85%. Go figure.

Itsprobablynotcominghome · 01/07/2021 22:33

Sorry there are few slightly over 85%.

But yeah no way the average is 85%.

Sorry, probably being dense but do you mean the local ones i.e the NHS England weekly release? The issue I had with that one is that the population figures include under 18s, and the overall figures are a percentage of the adult population so it's answering a different question? TBF I haven't downloaded the detailed stats for a few weeks now so I might just be remembering wrongly.
