The key thing we need to know is how the FUCK they've managed to get cats to do PCR tests and lived to tell the tale? You can't get the satanic little fur balls to swallow a bloody tablet - let alone take a swabbing!

Mountains of Dreamies?

Usual2usual · 01/07/2021 09:49

Bet its still easier than doing a test on a 4 year old

SingingInTheShithouse · 01/07/2021 09:54

Think it depends on the cat.

One of mine will let you do anything with him, so long as there's a cuddle & a few dreamies involved.

The other would have my hand off regardless of dreamies & would avoid me for a week

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 01/07/2021 09:54

I think the official method is to stroke the cat until it sneezes on your face*, and then just scrape the sneeze juice into a test tube.

*surely can’t just be my cat? I am a goner if there’s ever a deadly cat-flu going around.

OldTinHat · 01/07/2021 10:00

Sneeze juice

😂😂😂😂

LibertyRose · 01/07/2021 10:01

Loss of taste probably . Cat suddenly buying 'Live, laugh, love signs' etc

Mindymomo · 01/07/2021 10:18

My dog would take my hand off if I tried testing him.

Motorina · 01/07/2021 10:21

@Mindymomo mine would eat the swab.

TheSockMonster · 01/07/2021 10:31

Covid would have been the least of my problems if I had attempted to to shove a cotton bud into my late cat’s nose or mouth…

Electrophorusvoltai · 01/07/2021 11:08

The vet used to give my big old cat a worming tablet and made it look easy. No way could we do that at home, would have no skin left on Grin

Mickarooni · 01/07/2021 11:14

Tried to give my dog eye drops, they ended up mainly on his head and back. I can’t even contemplate a swab.

MRex · 01/07/2021 11:24

I was wondering this; even catching my old cat was impossible, he had a ninth sense for medical attempts being made on him. I fondly remember him eating the ball of cheese and carefully, magically, leaving a little pile of powdered tablet on the floor. The research record needs to show how many dog swabs were eaten and how many scars the cat testers now have.

bluedomino · 01/07/2021 11:41

I'm convinced our cat caught Covid off us. Everyone thinks I'm mad. But he was really ill, couldn't breathe properly, gasping for air, sides heaving. Vet had no idea what was causing it, xray showed lungs all congested. After antibiotics he perked up and after a fortnight he was almost back to normal. I feel vindicated now!

Cornettoninja · 01/07/2021 11:47

I’m presuming the cases identified in cats have been to a vet. Considering mine manages to get a thermometer up my cats arse I’m sure they could get a swab for covid (they might even use an anal swab).

@bluedomino I don’t think you’re mad, covid has been found in cats (although it’s thought they can’t transmit it to us) and why lots of zoos have had extra precautions in place around their big cats and some other mammals. Did you see about the mink farms last year?

DeathByWalkies · 01/07/2021 12:08

Seeing as my dog had to be muzzled for eye drops, there's no fucking chance I'd be trying to ram a swab down the back of his throat.

I quite like my fingers in the shape they currently are, thank you.

72WayTooCool · 01/07/2021 14:16

If I even tried to prise open my little treasure's jaws to swab her, my flesh would be in strips. DS and I tried to bath her once. The bathroom was a mass of black fur, water and blood, ours!

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 01/07/2021 19:33

The virus is present in faeces, so probably not too hard to collect samples.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/07/2021 19:38

Grin I think this is the key, actually. After several hundred eaten swabs and several trips to A&E for stitches and tetanus shots, they just went "Fuck it. Shall we make something up?"

I think that's what our cat died of last march. (2020) Vets did loads of tests (not covid) and found nothing but she was gasping for air at the end. Still miss her
3WildOnes · 01/07/2021 19:44

Can they test our faeces then instead of poking us in the brain?

Tinysalmonswimminginastream · 01/07/2021 19:45

I did make me laugh when i went for a test and in the instructions it said 'this test is for humans only'. I was immediately imagining someone bringing their cat to test centre and trying to shove a swab up their nose!

Cornettoninja · 01/07/2021 19:46

Yes they can. China have a kit but it wasn’t a popular idea here, it wouldn’t be a sample from a passed faeces, it’d be a sample fresh from the colon i.e a swab up the bum.

So still poking you in the brain. Just from the other end. Grin

3WildOnes · 01/07/2021 20:29

I think I would find being poked in the bum preferable personally!
