If you have a CV/CEV DC over-12 years old...

... has your DC had the vaccine (Pfizer) licensed and approved for over-12s a few weeks ago now?

MHRA assessed that the benefits outweighed the risks for all over-12s (with standard exception of contraindications and special precautions for use/warnings).

I know of CEV 16 year olds that got vaccinated early in the year, haven’t heard if it’s been approved for under 16 year olds yet.

blissfulllife · 29/06/2021 16:17

Daughter consultant told me last week they've not been given the go ahead for 12+ cev patients yet

herecomesthsun · 29/06/2021 16:36

No, we haven't been offered a vaccine yet.

rosie39forever · 29/06/2021 16:50

My dd has had both her Pfizer vaccines the first in March the second in may, she's 17 and has learning disabilities and her dad is CEV . She is on the learning disability register so her GP added her to group 6 at my request. She was fine with both jabs no side effect at all.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 29/06/2021 17:11

Nothing yet, anxiously waiting for this for my CV 12-year-old. Would be v v good to get the Pfizer jab underway and possibly the 2nd dose before she returns in September ... wishful thinking.

Will be asking the consultants at the next outpatients appointment to try to expedite. It feels wrong that non-CV teens in other countries are receiving them when our most vulnerable teens aren't.

Spikeyball · 29/06/2021 17:13

No. The only ones I know of are those who spend a lot of time in residential care.

Dramallama4 · 29/06/2021 17:58

Nope, I’ve begged my GP, she said he can have it on his 16th birthday next year.

I am sick to the back teeth of hearing how all the vulnerable are vaxxed so let it rip without a thought for the many CV children out there.

We as a family are still living in lockdown, sending DS to school is the only risk we take, if case numbers keep rising like they are we will have to pull him out of school before the end of term.

My child is only a few months away from getting the vaccine, my heart goes out to parents who have younger CV children who will have to wait and continue putting their and their children’s lives on hold.

Chocl8 · 29/06/2021 18:47

No, unfortunately not. I’ve tried to organise for my CEV DD, but Drs will not progressed until JCVI recommended it for use in the “green book”. I was so excited when MHRA approved the Pfizer jab but I didn’t expect there to be such a wait for this next decision for vulnerable children. I’m finding it frustrating. Contact a Family charity are campaigning jabs for CV/CEV children and suggest that families write to JCVI (they have a template letter) if you are interested op.

Pickersgill · 29/06/2021 19:53

Nope. Am desperately waiting- DD has multiple hospital admissions for asthma caused by viral respiratory illness. Am getting so pissed off with school relaxing precautions when cev/cv kids haven't had a jab.

grabajab · 30/06/2021 10:50

Gosh, this is terrible.
It was weeks ago that the Pfizer was approved for over-12s (all over-12s, not just CV and CEV so there really is no excuse).
Over-16s who are CV/CEV will mostly be double vaccinated by now (as pp states).
I really hope these DC can get fully vaccinated before September so they are not put at risk. I do agree with the end of the mass self-isolations, but I strongly feel that CV and CEV pupils should have been fully vaccinated by then. And then all over-12s who want it...

OP posts:
grabajab · 30/06/2021 10:52

Not to mention the poor CEV children still shielding at home. That should be a priority.

SingingInTheShithouse · 30/06/2021 11:00

My CV DD has had both of her Pfizer vaccines at 17 (now 18) no problems at all.

grabajab · 30/06/2021 11:45

yes the problem is 12-15 year old who have a vaccine approved for them, but not able to access it until the government/JCVI give the go-ahead.

Interesting editorial in the Guardian today, the second half of which is all about the failure to vaccinate the over-12s with the vaccine approved for them. it also mentions CV and CEV children.

That's crap, I agree

But I meant side effects wise

Yes, I agree also, older teenager vaccinated here (CEV) and no side effects either - or at least exactly the same as an adult (bit sub-par for one day). I really feel for 12-15yo with no access to the vaccine, especially those who are CV and CEV.
OP posts:
SingingInTheShithouse · 30/06/2021 13:22

Yes I feel for them too, they could be a lot freer than they are right now. DDs vaccine as I'm sure you know from yours, came as such a huge relief when she was having to go into college etc & worked wonders for her MH & ours

Tealightsandd · 30/06/2021 19:49

I was so shocked when I read that Guardian article a while back. I didn't even realise CEV and CV children were still waiting for their vaccines (obviously over 12 only for now).

So sorry for all parents of vulnerable children.

Other countries are already vaccinating all over 12s (France, Singapore, America, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Denmark, etc).

I understand we have limited supplies here but surely there's enough for vulnerable children?

I've written to my MP about this. Haven't heard back yet.

Dramallama4 · 30/06/2021 21:04

This is really starting to concern me now, I believe all restrictions in schools will be scrapped for September which is great if you don’t have a CV child, some restrictions are ridiculous. Without sounding too dramatic it’s a terrifying thought for me, no thought has been given to my child and children like him.
By mid October cases will likely be sky high, I will have to pull him out of school and probably fined. Unbelievable to think that healthy kids in other countries have been jabbed yet our vulnerable ones haven’t.

Dramallama4 · 30/06/2021 21:07

@grabajab there’s a child in my sons school who has been shielding since February 2020, what about his life and his families lives, what about their mental health. I’m starting to feel angry and unlike me very bitter.

jumpbounce · 30/06/2021 21:43

We have a 4yo. No end in sight for us, if anything the isolation will become worse if they ease the restrictions in schools.
Our whole family strictly shielded from early in March 2020 before school closures and lockdowns on advice from consultant. Thanks to community transmission being low our DC (siblings also have to remain at home in some cases to protect the CEV) were able to go back to school Mid April. Schools have now broken up where we are, thankfully, as in recent weeks the cases in them had begun to rise again.
We balanced the risk, when covid is low in our community the risk to DC from contracting a non covid infection is as high or higher at that point than covid hence allowing them to return to school however whenever covid is running rampant throughout the schools it really is significantly higher risk and therefore we have to keep the children at home.
I just see that come September, the plan seems to be to allow covid to transmit freely in schools and therefore thousands of CEV families will be impacted yet again with long term isolation and no education as well as absolutely no support (financial or otherwise) from the government!

I just can't see how anyone considers it an acceptable option for these children to spend 1 year + completely shielded but argue how their children couldn't possibly complete 10 days isolation because of their mental health yet just keep the vulnerable ones at home? What about their mental health?

pinkpip100 · 30/06/2021 22:28

@jumpbounce my dd is 7, so like you no vaccine in sight. It's such a worry. I have been shocked and upset by the attitudes on some of the other threads - completely dismissive of our concerns, really rude in about it in cases. We can't afford to keep dd off school as I would likely lose my job, plus she has 3 older siblings who are in school too. Cases are rising hugely where we are but at least they are attempting to isolate to reduce spread at the moment - once isolation disappears, I am not sure what we will do.
@Tealightsandd - thank you for your support, on here and other threads - it is much appreciated.

Dramallama4 · 01/07/2021 05:29

@jumpbounce I don’t know how to quote but yes to your last paragraph!
It’s also quite clear that children like ours are sometimes seen as collateral damage, they don’t matter, which is certainly what I’ve seen on a few covid threads.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 01/07/2021 05:52

My friend's dc is CEV. He's 14 and was given the first jab 6 weeks ago and is having the second this weekend. It was his GP surgery who arranged for him to have it and was agreed by his hospital consultant.

grabajab · 02/07/2021 10:36

Sorry for those of you with younger children for whom the vaccine is not even licensed. Medicines can be given off-licence, which you probably know, but since the vaccine is not currently being given to older children for whom it is approved, this seems very unlikely. It is a glaring omission and I don't understand why there is not any room for GP/specialist discrimination like there seems to be in so many areas of the vaccination programme.
