From the test and trace people? When you’re either on your way or already there? I’m talking about a UK based holiday btw.

I guess you self isolate in situ for as long as possible then go home. Or switch your phone off?

makingmyway10 · 29/06/2021 14:19

You either go home straight away or isolate where you are. I know a fair few people who have deleted the app for this reason .

Mindymomo · 29/06/2021 16:25

We are going away on Friday to a cottage and have wondered about this. We are leaving one adult DS at home, so if we get called, we wouldn’t want to come home, but as we’ve only booked it for a week and it’s booked the following week, we will have to return home. The lady of the house told us today that this weeks occupants cancelled due to having to isolate.

RoseAndRose · 29/06/2021 16:27

You isolate in situ if you can.

If you cannot, then you return home by safest means and isolate there

Chillychangchoo · 29/06/2021 16:27

It’s quite simple you delete the app and you don’t answer your phone off an unknown number.

Enjoy your holiday.

Watapalava · 29/06/2021 16:39

That’s what I would do chilly
No way would I end my holiday

Lottie4 · 29/06/2021 16:52

My DD had a notification to isolate while on a train (she was going to stay with a friend). She messaged me as upset, not knowing what to do. I couldn't get hold of DH who had the car, and even when I did it would have been six hours until we got to her, and she'd have been sat in the station surrounded by people. Hotels wouldn't have wanted her and she couldn't got to her friends.

I couldn't think of anything else other than telling her to double mask, keep sanitising her hands, get off train and get next one back. Luckily she found a quiet carriage and had no one near. I'll give it to her she had no food or drink, and went without.

yeahdarling · 29/06/2021 16:54

This is my big worry about being contacted by one of the schools DH and I work in or DC attend. It's literally causing me sleepless nights worrying about missing another holiday.

Deleting the app won't stop them phoning you though. I've never had the app but they'd still call me if someone gave my name as a close contact. I hope they aren't relying on that to protect them from being contacted.

This. I cannot comprehend anyone who would even consider going home. Bonkers.

Pootles34 · 29/06/2021 16:59

When we stayed in a hotel the other week there was a leaflet about what to do if you have to isolate whilst you're there... it doesn't sound fun! Right down to how to do your laundry (they will give you detergent and you get to do your laundry in the bathroom apparently).

HarrietOh · 29/06/2021 17:00

I think some people mean the contact tracing part of app, which you don’t have to isolate for anyway. You can turn off the contract tracing part of app, which most people have done as it doesn’t work properly and picks up neighbours through walls etc.

HighlandCowbag · 29/06/2021 17:04

We are booked to go away (UK) first week of school holidays. Rona rampaging round schools here. Dd is doing a uni summer school the last week (online) and I am keeping ds home for the last week to avoid exactly this. He does have dental appointments that week anyway, am just going to tell school he is self isolating for the treatment.

But I can actually see the government announcing a change to the rules by Monday to stop the moaning about full bubble isolations.

Watapalava · 29/06/2021 17:25

Workplaces (most) and all schools and nurseries do their own track and trace

The official T&T are not involved therefore no one is going to ring you

Just go

user1487194234 · 29/06/2021 18:59

Have deleted App and won't be answering phone
No way would I come home

Katie517 · 29/06/2021 21:10

Delete the pointless/useless app and don’t answer calls from numbers you don’t know, or better still block the T&T number, or turn your phone off while you are on holiday and enjoy yourself without the constant worry about covid related issues!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/06/2021 21:24

My child was at her grandparents when she got the close contact call. We left her there until the next day as planned (it was 10pm), then went and had a nice day in their garden before bringing her home.

LizJamIsFab · 29/06/2021 21:25

Delete the app before you go

What an insane overraction

I would have told my daughter to have a lovely time at her friend's and to delete the app

Realitea · 30/06/2021 07:58

I can’t believe everyone’s advice on here. I look after holiday lets and I’d be really annoyed to know someone would be in one who should be isolating. I’d at least like to know if they’ve been contacted and I’d ask them to stay in the house they’ve hired until their isolation period is over.
I would then make sure I was extra cautious with my PPE and warn the laundry company that there was a possible case.
People need to know. It’s irresponsible to just ignore/turn off your phone
Maybe it’s time I changed my job

Northernlurker · 30/06/2021 08:05

Now so many people have been double vaccinated isolation seems unnecessarily draconian. We don't isolate flu cases. I am thinking about keeping dd at home for a couple of days just to be sure.

TheVampiresWife · 30/06/2021 08:10

How on earth can you 'isolate in situ' if you're staying in a hotel which doesn't offer room service? What are you meant to eat? The wallpaper?

NameChangeNameShange · 30/06/2021 08:23

I would have told my daughter to have a lovely time at her friend's and to delete the app

What if the friend or the friends family didn't want her there?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/06/2021 08:29

@Lottie4 really? Confused

Why was the fact that she didn’t eat or drink somehow another badge of honour?!

TheVampiresWife · 30/06/2021 08:33

I'll give it to her she had no food or drink, and went without

Huh? Why shouldn't she have a drink or something to eat?
