Covid isolation and siblings.

If a child has to isolate due to close contact at school I know that siblings do not have to isolate if the isolating child has no symptoms.

But how do you get the siblings to school?

When you have no family around to take other child to school, very few friends in the area and cannot leave isolating child at home as not enough.

Can they leave the house to sit in the car whilst you do school run?! Is is that not allowed!

It's only for one school run a day as Dp will be home for the other.

Guess you have to.
Drive with windows down, isolating child in back.

I'm worried as leaving the house at all is totally frowned up - which I totally understand. I would drive with windows down then put them up whilst parked and isolating child left alone - he will be fine. He's in year 6 but could not be left alone in the house but fine in the car for a few minutes! 😒

Why would you not leave a Year 6 child at home while you do the school run?

I would!

I would!

Because it's not safe unfortunately. He is autistic. He would be fine in the car for a couple minutes but the house is a no! He would get triggered if the phone rang, the dog barked or the door knocked with a parcel and he was home alone! I don't think he could manage it! It would be easier if he could be left at home... 😒

You put your children in the car and drive to school.
I guess you could all wear masks? There has to be a balance.
Im sorry you have this Stress in your Life OP. The car is an extension of your Home. Your child has no symptoms so the chance of them passing anything on is so tiny

I have had this issue several times! Neither dc old enough to be left at home alone. We drove, I parked outside school and arranged for one of the other school mums to collect whichever dc was not isolating from the car and walk them into school for me. They also collected them for me at home time and walked them back to my car.

Thank you. Masks are required on drop offs and pick up for parents anyway. It is stress but we will get through it! We are very fortunate this is the first time any of us have had to isolate so we've been lucky in that aspect! 💕

Good idea. I do get on with one mum particularly well but her two are off poorly at the minute - not covid as far as I'm aware! But I'll see if I can contact someone else. It's such a small school with small classes and a few children are in breakfast and after school clubs, childminders, grandparents etc so I'm not sure who I can ask to take Dd into the school yet 😒

I think in your circumstances I would phone the school and explain you are struggling. Maybe they would arrange for a member of staff meet you with dc who isn't isolating?
