What are the chances DD will need to isolate?

My DD attended an outdoor activity day on Saturday. One of the kids from her group had a positive PCR test today.
She going to end up needing to isolate, isn't she? Poor thing has her yr6 disco on Saturday. It's the only event her school have allowed this year due to rates rising. She's going to be gutted Sad

(Dd has a positive lateral flow test today but I know that's meaningless. We're just waiting for the formal advice from the group leaders)

Was it all outdoors? Did they share food or anything? Any physical contact?

allfineanddandytillitsnot · 28/06/2021 19:55

All outdoors. They were bunched together doing things like raft building. BBQ lunch, but not sure how the food was given out / if there was any sharing etc.

I would brace yourself for an isolation as it was a kid in her group.

Oh fuck it! She's missed out on all this stuff this year, so was super exciting to go along and I was really happy for her too. I was dreading a school bubble bursting, but this is worse really (for DD) as it means all her school friends will get to do the end of year party, she'll be the only one who misses out. Oh this is so rubbish!

The Scotland football team didn’t have to self isolate because they played outside (never mind all the indoor contact Hmm) so why the hell should your DD?

ineedaholidaynow · 28/06/2021 20:52

Do you have a copy of their risk assessment for the event?

Sally872 · 28/06/2021 20:54

Hope your dd is lucky and gets to disco.

@ineedaholidaynow

Do you have a copy of their risk assessment for the event?
No I don't. @Sally872 thanks!

This is what I don’t get. If Coronavirus is going to be around forever, will we be testing ourselves forever?
How will isolating work long term? Will employers tolerate it? Will some people who work for large companies take the piss and lie to get time off?
What about positive tests at schools? How can classes just isolate and expect parents to drop work and expect our employers to support it?
What about kids isolating and self employed parents, who won’t earn money when they take time off?
I’m so confused how this ‘ forever ‘ illness will work long term.

allfineanddandytillitsnot · 28/06/2021 21:08

@Dave20 I know. But right now the rules are still to SI. Can't go on forever I'm sure.

I can’t see how entire classes can isolate when they get a positive test, in the long term. Apart from parents continuously taking time off work, the education of the kids will suffer too.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/06/2021 22:55

It’s unfortunate but the reality is the risks are known so if there is one event more important to attend then it’s wise to keep contacts to the bare minimum possible beforehand.

BarbarianMum · 29/06/2021 07:55

I dint know about now but in Dec the criteria for isolating for close outdoors was being at 2m or less for a sustained period. So on that basis she should be fine
