Mixing Vaccines - is it possible?

I was wondering whether anyone has been able to have a different second dose to the first vaccine in the UK?

I had AZ at the end of March at a walk in centre, with the idea that any vaccine is better than none. Unfortunately I had a bad reaction, with severe headaches and unbearable joint/leg pain, some of which continues.

I am understandably anxious about the second dose which I should have had by now. I am under 35 and only a couple of weeks later I would have been offered an alternative. Where I am walk in centres are heavily encouraging all over 18’s to drop in for Pfizer. I wish I would be allowed to go for the second dose!

Are GPs likely to be sympathetic in this case or has anyone had any success with asking ?

My daughter's boyfriend reacted to Pfizer so had AZ second. As a GP we cannot make that decision to have a different vaccine for the second one it has to go through the hospital where I am. I think as we get more data on using different vaccines we will know more.

Yes. Studies in Europe showed that boosting AZ with a Pfizer was safe and effective and I’ve heard of a few people having it that way here.

I had very bad side effects from first AZ. Second I had absolutely nothing. Without a second you have minimal protection from Delta. They haven't approved mix and match yet. If I were you I wouldn't delay
