Not self isolating

My auntie has hospital appointment next week and needs to isolate for 5 days beforehand. She's sad to cancel her fitness class that week and will have to send DH out to do the shopping. However, she is still having her son drop the grandkids off for childcare as usual though. Not really self isolating then, is she? She said it's ridiculous. I said that it's because the don't want her taking covid or any other germs into the hospital. Got me so mad!!

Does her son know she is meant to be isolating?

andora82 · 27/06/2021 00:29

Yes, they are selfish buggers though and wouldn't think to inconvenience themselves by having to arrange something else for a few days.

Didn't follow lockdown rules either so I'm not surprised. Winds me up.

Meh. Does she need to take a test beforehand?

andora82 · 27/06/2021 00:35

Lateral flow yes. Maybe I'm overreacting then.

Well let's hope she doesn't pass it on to staff and patients at the hospital. How bloody selfish!

HSHorror · 27/06/2021 00:47

What would happen if she had her own kids though?
Ideally she should be isolating even away from husband

Bear in mind the staff will have kids too

anothernamereally · 27/06/2021 00:56

It's 5 days - not really any time at all - very selfish of them Angry

DD had a PCR test three days before surgery. It was a last minute book in so she'd been working the same day, but after that we did our best (hard sometimes) to distance/ventilate/keep on top of hygiene. Results can change in three days though.

She's been very selfish.

This sort of account of people makes sad, and also scared fir my CEV family member who needs regular hospital appointments.

The requirements to isolate and test before procedures vary, because they are calibrated against the other patients on the list that day and the need for staff to care for patients plural (no one-on-ones)

This is a scenario when you are actually likely to encounter CEV people who are also currently in need of medical attention. It's shit enough facing cancer appointments, without worrying that the precautions the hospital takes to keep you as safe as possible are being actively undermined

I've lost my faith in lateral flow tests since DD has done them every day for 2 weeks (all negative) and yesterday had a positive PCR.

After the PCR, she did another LF which was again, negative Confused

When I had to isolate before hospital, my children didn’t. They went out to school every day and I was allowed to drop off/pick them up. Can’t see how that’s much different to your aunt having the kids over.

Bobholll · 27/06/2021 09:02

Similarly, I was told I had to isolate for a hospital procedure with overnight stay but told no-one else in my household did. My kids still went to nursery, OH still went to work 🤷🏼‍♀️

This was info from the hospital, I did think it was odd but was relieved my kids didn’t need to isolate to be honest!

DH had to self isolate prior to an operation a few weeks ago. Hospital advice was for other members of the household to isolate too unless they had to go to work or school. It recommended we slept in separate beds and used separate bathrooms or used the bathroom separately if that was not possible.
