Are there any chances he doesn’t have Covid…?

My Brother spent all day in a car travelling with someone who has now tested positive for Covid, only a day after he was in the car with DB he has had one jab but not the second. So far (2 days after exposure) he is ok but realistically what are his chances, guess I’m clutching at straws but just really hoping he doesn’t get it .

Obviously he is isolating, he has been doing lateral flows all negative

My dh tested positive we all isolated from him but on day 8 y dd tested positive

There are families who live cheek by jowl where only one person has had it, the others somehow managed to avoid it.

My nephew was in close contact with a positive case. Isolated in his bedroom, tested positive on day 7. Nobody else in his household has contacted it.

Was the person with Covid vaccinated? Even if they caught it post vaccination it reduces the secondary transmission risk.

There's a realistic chance he doesn't have it. He still needs to act as though he has until it's proven otherwise, though.

For a months DH has been exposed the rest of the household testing positive for weeks one after the other.

He has forever tested negative. We’re actually baffled

ChocOrange1 · 26/06/2021 12:57

There are loads if examples of families where one person has tested positive and other family members haven't. This is people who live together, eat together, share a bed etc. So going in a car for a few hours is less exposure than that.
Add in the fact that he has had a vaccine, and there is a realistic chance that he won't get it.

And even if he does get it, the overwhelming likelihood is that he will be absolutely fine.

Thanks for all your comments. It’s been 5 days since first exposure now so keeping fingers crossed

I know of several cases where households didn’t get it.. I’ve got two friends (two separate families) who have recently isolated because their kid had it (younger kids as well, nursery & reception) and none of the household have. This is despite said kids snotting & sneezing all over their parents, sharing a bed, sharing food etc! Obviously with young kids, you can’t isolate them or do anything differently so you carry on as normal as a household!

Me & my younger DD had it in December, older DD & OH didn’t appear to catch or were asymptomatic.

My MIL caught covid, she is a nurse and caught it at work. She lives with her adult DS, DH and was in a childcare bubble with my DS, no one else caught covid (no idea how not, but they didn't)

Then again I've seen people have minimum contact and still catch it

Stuffin · 26/06/2021 19:51

DH tested positive and I slept in same bed, shared same rooms and still tested negative despite him coughing everywhere.

SpnBaby1967 · 26/06/2021 19:53

I tested positive at xmas and still shared a bed with DH and didnt isolate from my kids. No one else caught it.

Just to update this thread, he tested positive on a lateral flow last night, only symptom was a headache but apparently cough started this morning. So about 5 days since exposure. Awaiting confirmation from pcr now!

I think the original strain and the Kent strain would commonly have situations where only some people in a house would catch it.

The reports from India was that whole families turned up at hospitals with the delta. Australia now saying everyone in a household are testing positive with their latest outbreak. PHE also say the attack rates are higher.

Hopefully he will be ok, especially since he' s had a jab.

Keepgoing88 · 28/06/2021 10:47

Thanks so far he is ok as is the person he likely caught it off :)

No one really knows. Did they both wear masks and keep windows open - obviously this will have reduced risk.
