What are the symptoms? Mine had it last year (March/April) and had classic cough, fever, malaise, rashes... but I am asking because our school have sent an updated list of symptoms out today (which is very broad and imo really thorough and good) but some parents are complaining about it...

Interested to know those whose kids have likely had the Delta variant covid, how did they present, particularly at primary age?

DS had it last December. Yr 7 so age 11. Had a sore throat and nothing else.

eastegg · 24/06/2021 18:09

Sorry, I've just realised you're asking about the Delta variant!

My friend and her 3 dc tested positive 2 weeks ago. She said their symptoms were more on a par with cold symptoms-sore throat, tired, off it, runny nose. One of them had a temperature for about 12 hours. My friend’s cough was worse than her children’s. They were all tired though.

IcanandIwill · 24/06/2021 18:18

Positive test this week. Sore throat, headache, fatigue and temperature. Lasted a few days, much better now.

TreaslakeandBack · 24/06/2021 18:19

Tested positive 11th May so probably Delta. Age 9. Asymptomatic.

TheSquigglething · 24/06/2021 18:35

Several of DS's schoolmates have tested positive. They seem to have had symptoms of a cold, ranging from heavy cold to veru slight sniffle.

Paddingtonthebear · 24/06/2021 18:36

Was told this week that the current symptoms to test for are any new cough, continuous or not, cold like symptoms including hayfever symptoms, and sickness/gastro issues but that’s more common in children. Friends child had a sickness episode this week which turned out to be covid

RiskyReels · 24/06/2021 18:37

Sore throat and headache for a couple of days, no cough or temp. Age 13, test was earlier in June so most likely delta. Headache, fatigue, loss of appetite seem to be the most common symptoms among teens with positive tests around here recently

MarcelineMissouri · 24/06/2021 18:38

Ds9 has been off this week due to a case in his class. She was only tested because her dm tested positive and she and her siblings have remained asymptomatic.

MTB84 · 24/06/2021 20:24

DD9 tested positive last Tuesday after having a headache and fever. Symptoms only lasted one day. Her two brothers (6 and 4) tested positive 6 and 7 days later but both were asymptomatic.

Couple friends kids at nursery have recently (one aged 15 months & one aged 4) - both mums said it was identical to a moderate cold & wouldn’t have thought to get tested if it wasn’t for nursery telling them to do so. Very snotty, minor coughs (mostly from the snot). Sore throat in the 4 year old, obviously the 15 month old may have. Tired & grumpy but not sleeping so well from general heavy cold like horribleness (it’s awful when your throat hurts but you are too snotty to breathe through your nose right?!)

Bobholll · 24/06/2021 21:19

Oh & both cases were confirmed to be Delta and none of the parents caught it.. which frankly we were all really surprised about! They all tested themselves 3 times over the 10 days & nothing between them at all!

It’s a strange old virus. We are being told this is extremely contagious, breathe in the air of someone across the street & you’ll get it.. yet two families with young kids who haven’t isolated from them and been snotted all over, shared beds & extremely close contact and nothing! They’ve all had one dose of Pfizer bar one Dad who has had both..

Moonfields · 24/06/2021 21:47

@Bobholll that is incredible! I have had Covid and one dose of Pfizer now so hoping I am reasonably protected.

Really interesting comments on here, glad our school sent the updated list as it mentions many of these things. I appreciate it is quite tough for woking parents though...having to keep kids off and test for every single thing!

One of my DC had it (age 4) in last few weeks. Classic symptoms - dry continuous cough, fever and malaise. No snottiness at all

anothernamereally · 25/06/2021 00:22

Not quite the age you're looking for but dd age 17 presented with cough, runny nose, headache, at day 9 of isolation I tested positive with same symptoms, no one else in the house has caught it - that's 5 other household members ranging from 4 to adult, our (20 day from first test) isolation ended at midnight

Drivingbuttercup · 25/06/2021 09:12

Tested positive three days ago, all symptoms of a cold- coughing, sneezing, snotty and watering and red shot eyes. Lasted a day or two and he's been playing in the garden all day. For the rest of us it's a waiting game. I know of other famies were members of the family ended up positive just as the self isolation period was ending. Dh is self employed we just can't afford to be self isolating for 20 days if it comes to that.

Dh and i had covid last year, we had a dry cough but DS has a chesty cough.

DarcyLewis · 25/06/2021 09:26

Mine had it last year so Pre-delta and had a very snotty nose, sneezing and sore throat/croaky voice. Occasional croupy/barky cough.

anothernamereally · 25/06/2021 11:42

@Drivingbuttercup the isolation legally is 10 days unless you then test positive (which I did) technically the dc could then go back to school after 10 days from 1st contact but school requested they stay home and I was too ill to argue
