Has anyone had their second AZ jab before 8 weeks?

I volunteer at a vacc centre that accepts drop-ins for AZ and we'd turn you away if you were under the 8 weeks.

The online booking system will only show you dates after 8 weeks.
As pp says, it is not allowed.

I had mine at 7+2 days, at the invitation of my GP surgery.
Bit worried about this now. Is the 8 weeks for reasons of safety or efficacy/maximum protection?

squishy11 · 24/06/2021 13:02

I also had mine early at 7+4 in the vaccination centre I was volunteering at. I'm asking on behalf of my husband who has one booked bang on 8 weeks but his work schedule means 2 days earlier would be much better!

Didn't everyone in the trial last year have their 2nd dose at 3 weeks? Not seen any reports to suggest that wasn't ok.

enterparentone · 24/06/2021 14:00

Many people who had earlier jabs (most vulnerable) would have had them at the manufacturer's recommended dosing interval (3/4 weeks depending on brand). Remember the UK went it alone spacing them out later? It was a lucky coincidence it turned out to improve efficacy.

I'm on a trial where you either get Valneva or AZ (you don't know which) and have both jabs 4 weeks apart, so it is possible.

I don't think there is any medical reason why you should not, as pps have said it happens but not if you try and book it specifically with that intention iyswim.

The problem is people would try to bring forward their jabs so they were fully vaccinated in time for their jolly holidays etc and others would get a delay to receiving their first dose (based on the UK's current rollout capacity, not what is happening in e.g. US where everyone over 12 can book a vaccine any time with just a 3 week interval inbetween).

I had mine at 7+5. It was booked for 12 weeks then suddenly we were all contacted one day at lunchtime and told "come this evening".
