UK Travel Insurance

I'm trying to book cover that includes Covid cancellation.

We have a UK holiday starting 10th July. We were in close contact with family members who tested positive. Our 10 days end 29th June. If one of us tests positive that day I think we may miss the 10th July date (DSS Partner tested positive on their 9th day of close contact and DSS 11th day).

I've looked at some insurance for me, DH and DD and currently says we need a written letter if we test positive 14 days prior to departure. Anyone know how on earth we would get this?

Im assuming it would be foolish to do a PCR until Sat. They arrived today.

Anyone found any good insurance?

I'm abolsutely gutted we might miss a much needed break. DD currently missing school and is really looking forward to getting to the beach. Our summer leave might be taken up with isolation.

I’d imagine you’d needed to have sourced and paid for the policy prior to booking the holiday? That’s how it works with a claim for anything else travel insurance related, otherwise premiums would be even higher as people would only buy if they needed to claim. Eg we’ve had to cancel several holidays as one of us has fallen ill, we only got a claim payout if the policy was booked before the holiday.

I've always bought insurance after booking a holiday, and haven't actually bought one for the UK before. You need to buy one before the travel date and need to fulfill certain criteria.

Was wondering whether anyone else has book one that covers cancellation due to isolation or positive test?

AA travel insurance covers this...includes not being able to travel if isolating or being positive.
But the previous poster was right. This event that could lead you to cancel has already started so you cannot insure yourself for that now.

Yes as others said you won’t be insured against it if you take out a policy now as they won’t insure for something that has already happened.

We're not had the official T&T comms yet, and the PCRs were ordered for Zoe. We know to isolate as DSSs. Do you think that would make a difference.

I echo others. Travel insurance does not cover a known event and there is no point buying now.

Where is your UK holiday accommodation booked? Are you in a property in a part of the UK where you can stay in your bubble and self-isolate? Of course, you would need to check the terms of your accommodation as to what it allows.

I have a related question. Can you get travel insurance for UK just for covid?
I have huge pre-existing conditions which make travel insurance for abroad very expensive. I looked at some for UK assuming that because there is free health care that wouldn't matter. They still wanted £400 from me for UK travel.
