Complications to travelling with child 2 months after she had Covid

Help please!

Apparently you can show as positive on a PCR test for months after having covid.
As an adult this is recognised by the NHS and you qualify for an NHS Covid Pass if you’ve had a positive PCR test within the past 6 months.
But my daughter is a child and we want to travel abroad to see close relatives in August.
Does anyone know if there is a way of legitimately proving her Covid status as the PCR will be unreliable but obviously cause us immense problems if/when positive.

Thank you!

How old is she? For example children under 11 are exempted from testing when returning to U.K.

Tr0ubled · 22/06/2021 19:17

She’s 13.
I’ve just spent an hour on the phone to 119 being passed around and no one could help.
I can’t imagine that we will be the only family in this situation.

Do you know if she is still positive?
It doesn't happen in everyone that they test positive for months afterwards. They don't recommend testing for 90 days after the initial positive, presumably in case of a false positive result from previous infection. I've known a few people who have had emergency travel and also a few who needed to be tested for admission to hospital, all with the same worries regarding would they still test positive...some of them were within the 90 days from the initial positive and all tested negative. So there is a high chance your DD will be negative and fine Smile

Book her a pcr now and find out tomorrow?

MadeForThis · 22/06/2021 19:50

I would book a test now. At least if it's negative you won't have to worry any more.

My DD had Covid at the end of September and three months later took a PCR to fly to Germany. That came back negative as did the one she did when she landed. She'd definitely had Covid as she also had an antibody test over there which confirmed it.

My son had covid early April, picked up on the ONS survey
By the time his next PCR with ONS was done a month later he was showing negative.

I think this is a highly probable non issue.

Thank you. All very reassuring.
