Panicking.

Dd 6 was coughing through the night. She's woken up very snotty with a very loose but persistent cough so I've booked a test.

She's looking and feeling fine in herself mind. No temp and eaten breakfast and running around.

Likelihood is it's just a cold but with the new delta variant and increasing cases I'm panicking it could be covid. I like in an area where cases have increased recently.

Panicking about her, the rest of us, also we seen friends (outside) yesterday. Panicking that it will be positive we will have to tell them to isolate. I feel guilty that we could have infected others before symptoms shown up!

Please help me feel better. She has never had a test before so worried about the test itself too!

Please reassure and help an over anxious mhm feel better 😒

My kids have had numerous cold/virus type things and have never had a positive test. It's probably just a cold. Just a book a test and get it over with, results are coming back fast so hopefully you'll only have to isolate for 24 hours.

Whatshouldicallme · 21/06/2021 08:22

Even if she does have COVID it isn't your fault and you haven't done anything to feel bad or guilty for. It sounds like you were following guidelines in terms of the gatherings with friends and you are following guidelines now by isolating and getting a test. I hope you and your daughter feel better.

Kacha30 · 21/06/2021 08:27

Thank you. Her cough is very 'wet', she's snotty and watery eyed. Hoping it's not covid! But best thing to do is get a test! She's usually a very healthy child who doesn't catch anything! However, DS has had 3 tests so far (all negative). He's a bit older though. I'm worried with Dd being so young!

I was here a few weeks ago. Toddler was coughing with temps of almost 40. The day before it started he’d been looked after by my very high risk friend for an hour.

Luckily negative but I was very scared.

Hope little one made a speedy recovery. No temperature here luckily! It's typical isn't it! We barely ever meet friends and the day we did Dd gets ill the day after.. glad it was negative for you! There's so many other viruses going around!

Worried about snot affecting the test? Adults are told to blow nose but Dd can't blow her nose efficiently yet? How much does snot matter?

My one year old had to have a test back in a December as he had to have a negative test before the doctor would see him... he was fine with it. Just did his nose and I didn't put it up there hard either.

There are still a lot of colds doing the rounds at the moment.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 21/06/2021 10:34

My husband has a horrendous "summer cold" (currently asleep upstairs). He's done 3 Covid tests, and it definitely is just a bad cold. Perhaps worse as we haven't been exposed to so much of this stuff.

It probably is just a cold op. Try to keep calm until you know otherwise. If it is Covid, it's not your fault and most kids are absolutely fine. Flowers

Has he done a PCR test, or just lateral flows? If he has symptoms he should be doing a PCR, they're much more sensitive.

OP, obviously keep her home but also inform the school -- now, today, while you're waiting for results. It helps them if they can be aware that they may have to start closing bubbles.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/06/2021 10:39

Help her blow her nose. Block one nostril for her and get her to keep blowing until it sounds clear.

You can't k is in advance she was going to be ill. As long as you have been following rules to your best ability you have nothing to feel guilty about.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/06/2021 10:39

I've emailed the school! Didn't have time to ring as booked a test for first thing! 😄

I was a bit like this over Easter! Felt hideous but covid negative! Took 10 days to get over a cold.

I am concerned it could be covid. My son has had 3 tests now (all last year now) but each time I was pretty sure it wasn't covid. He had a cold and he has asthma so every time he gets a cold he gets a cough for weeks. But with Dd a cough is much more uncommon! She never coughs so this is unusual!

A high temp is quite far down the list of delta symptoms. Headache, runny nose and sore throat come first. Very similar to a cold or hayfever 😩

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/06/2021 10:49

We are never out of the testing center 🙄, but all the coughing, snot etc is never Covid. My 6 year old is indifferent to the testing as long as he gets a magazine or other bribe.

Your DD will cough in your face when you do the throat, then sneeze full into your eyes when you do the nose, just so you can prepare yourself for that.

Thanks. We didn't actually manage to get the throat done. She wouldn't move her tongue out the way. She has additional needs too so it's it's hard to explain to her. Did a good swab of both nostrils though which did make her sneeze!

Dd has had a present for being very good - she really was surprisingly! Luckily I had some gifts stashed away upstairs. So I could giver something out the cupboard 😂

Glad it's safely over with! Fingers crossed for a speedy and negative result. I've found them really swift, based on our extensive testing.

Littleone638 · 21/06/2021 12:58

I’m in the same position right now although my DD is only 2, there were a lot of tears at the test, and like you, I feel so guilty that we may have passed it onto friends over the weekend. I also feel like there would be judgement that we’d not been following the rules and that’s how she got it if it’s positive. (Even though we have followed the rules and our friends really aren’t like that) Fingers crossed for you that it’s negative.

Thank you. Same back to you. Hopefully a quick and negative result! Hoping for a result by morning so at the very least my oldest who isn't ill can go back to school!

Looks like big brother doesn't get a day off school Smile

@Kacha30 great news! Ours came back at 1am so about 16 hours for us, also negative!

He is gutted to be going back today 😂 DD's cough is still very much going. Very wet and loose so she'll be off for another day or two yet. Don't want her spreading what she's got around even if when it's covid!

Good news! Surprised at the quick results. Took much longer the last time we tested but it was at Christmas time!
