I’m hoping it’ll have permanently reduced non-essential business travel. I know a lot of people who were flying twice a week for work meetings that could easily have been on zoom (basically cos travel is fun and they could deduct the expenses from tax), was ridiculous from a climate change point of view. Seriously even some trips UK-Australia that were unnecessary.
Also hoping that work from home for some of week will be more acceptable to employers, that London property will be less in demand and thus more affordable, and that small town centres will be revitalised by the increased demand for local cafes driven by more work from homers plus more high income people leaving London. Some nice but neglected beach towns desperately needed tourists that they’re now getting.
Also hoping that schools will maintain their improved hand washing. Kids were suffering norovirus and flu way too often because of bad hygiene in schools (ours didn’t allow pre-lunch handwashing before the pandemic as “there isn’t time” and kids weren’t allowed to have tissues for nose wiping but told they had to use their sleeve 😡)
One negative change will be more hassle and certification needed for travel, for decades we’ve needed proof of yellow fever vaccination to enter some countries, now more countries will be saying no entry unless you have proof of an up to date covid vaccine.
Other than that I think things will return to normal quite quickly by 2022 after a nasty autumn wave with low deaths but high cases.
It’s important to remember that this is not Britain’s first pandemic nor is it the worst. Things end.
