Do you think things will return to pre covid 19?

I'm just wondering do you think that life will ever be how it was before covid 19 or do you think some things will never go back to what it was like bedore this pandemic?

I think some things will stay, a lot of home working which will save companies on office costs and save people who do those jobs commuting time and money.

I hope table service and ordering food drinks on apps stays in pubs & restaurants, it’s so much easier than queuing at the bar.

november90 · 19/06/2021 21:27

I think there's going to be a. Dry long period of testing and isolating and mini lockdown type enforcements but I do think, in a few years, things will settle. I don't think society will just zap back to how it was though, because people change!

Freshandtasty · 19/06/2021 21:32

Well this afternoon we’ve been to our local pub, sat in the beer garden, walked around indoors the pub with no masks on, a live band set up and started at 6 indoors and the pub was full indoors with no spaces between the tables, hardly anyone wore masks.
The double doors to the beer garden were open as were a few windows.

It seemed like everyone has given up and just carried on as before the pandemic.

Everyone has had enough.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/06/2021 21:34

I certainly hope life goes back to how it was before. I dislike this way of living.

Nootkah · 19/06/2021 21:35

@Freshandtasty You may have done it, and the pub may have allowed it, but I dont think that was within the current rules. That pub could face a hefty fine for allowing that ans potentially lose its license! People should be wearing masks unless seated.

bombis · 19/06/2021 21:40

I wish things stay as they are now. Life doesn't seem to be so hectic anymore.

PandemicPalava · 19/06/2021 21:43

I think it will take a while and things will have to adapt. I am incredibly sad for my dd who is a competition dancer so I'm hoping they find a way to run children's competitive sports safely, even if with no spectators or even time slots for dancing. We need to adapt

TheKeatingFive · 19/06/2021 21:45

Give it time, but yes I think it will return to how it was.

The only difference I would like Covid to usher in is a review of the nhs. Funding, delivery, management, plan for coping with something similar in the future.

TheKeatingFive · 19/06/2021 21:45

Life doesn't seem to be so hectic anymore.

Adjust your own life then, you don’t need a pandemic for that.

Everyone's certainly not given up where I stay. Pubs and restaurants are closely monitored. Tables are spaced indoors and out. You've already been set back 1 month in England , lax behaviour slows down the exit BoJo wants for you.
XenoBitch · 19/06/2021 21:47

I hope it will. Hope is all I have.

Mindymomo · 19/06/2021 21:48

I think that screens will stay in supermarkets and shops. I think the staff prefer people at a distance

Oblomov21 · 19/06/2021 22:02

No. It can't go back, but it will get better than this.

NannyAndJohn · 19/06/2021 22:09

Things are pretty much back to normal anyway.

Even though they shouldn't be yet.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 19/06/2021 22:10

I think some things will have changed forever - perhaps not caused by the pandemic but accelerated by it - eg death of the high street, increase In digitised services

Skysblue · 19/06/2021 22:34

I’m hoping it’ll have permanently reduced non-essential business travel. I know a lot of people who were flying twice a week for work meetings that could easily have been on zoom (basically cos travel is fun and they could deduct the expenses from tax), was ridiculous from a climate change point of view. Seriously even some trips UK-Australia that were unnecessary.

Also hoping that work from home for some of week will be more acceptable to employers, that London property will be less in demand and thus more affordable, and that small town centres will be revitalised by the increased demand for local cafes driven by more work from homers plus more high income people leaving London. Some nice but neglected beach towns desperately needed tourists that they’re now getting.

Also hoping that schools will maintain their improved hand washing. Kids were suffering norovirus and flu way too often because of bad hygiene in schools (ours didn’t allow pre-lunch handwashing before the pandemic as “there isn’t time” and kids weren’t allowed to have tissues for nose wiping but told they had to use their sleeve 😡)

One negative change will be more hassle and certification needed for travel, for decades we’ve needed proof of yellow fever vaccination to enter some countries, now more countries will be saying no entry unless you have proof of an up to date covid vaccine.

Other than that I think things will return to normal quite quickly by 2022 after a nasty autumn wave with low deaths but high cases.

It’s important to remember that this is not Britain’s first pandemic nor is it the worst. Things end.

Trevsadick · 19/06/2021 22:37

It will never go back to exactly how it was and I don't think that's always a bad thing.

I think it will get a lot better than it is now.

thriftyhen · 19/06/2021 22:46

@Freshandtasty That's so depressing. Just the sort of thing that will extend restrictions for longer. I wonder where you are? Thankfully, it's not like that in our local area.

GoldenOmber · 19/06/2021 22:48

I think a few changes will stay. More use of videoconferencing in jobs, more online streaming for events even when the in-person audiences are back, more phone/video GP appointments for people who want them. Probably a bit more working from home, although I don’t think there’ll be a great WFH revolution. Some of the political precedents democrats the last year+ are going to take a while to filter out.

Otherwise, yeah, I think mostly back to 2019.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/06/2021 22:57

I’m hoping video meetings and training continues as so much better and more convenient.
Small weddings and space/distance in places.
Social distancing in shops.
Not going to work or school with illness.
Better hygiene so less bugs.

Semi rural South Wales. The pub was packed, although it was a great day and nice to be back to absolute normal it did feel strange.

There was no enforcement of mask wearing whatsoever and tables in the pub were all placed side by side.

Cowbells · 19/06/2021 23:00

I hope the cleaning of public spaces and transport continues. Before Covid I noticed the UK was filthy. Really embarrassingly deeply grimy in every public space. Now it looks a lot cleaner and more cared for. I'd love that to stay.
