Hi. I had a mild reaction to my first Moderna jab, and I was wondering how people are getting on with their second doses.

Thanks

Nandocushion · 19/06/2021 16:55

No reaction to either moderna jab.

Midnightballerina · 19/06/2021 16:55

I just got my 2nd yesterday eve . Bit of a sore arm & really tired. I just had the best nap ever & I'm feeling much better.

HermioneWeasley · 19/06/2021 16:57

@Midnightballerina, did you have any reaction to your first?

I had joint pain, fatigue, sore arm, brain fog for 24 hours. I also had nausea but have no idea if that was related

Barely anything with my first Moderna. Just a sore arm and I felt kind of out of it the next day.

With my second, 10 hours after I got it, I got a headache and nausea at the same time which lasted for about 5 hours. I never threw up but was just very nauseous. It went away like someone flipping a switch which was interesting. The next day I felt kind of "meh" but no big deal.

Midnightballerina · 19/06/2021 17:01

Very mild 1st time. Bit of a headache & I felt a bit feverish (although that could just be by age!).

HermioneWeasley · 20/06/2021 18:08

Bump

Sore arm for first one. Fever, headache and very inflamed sore injection site for second one. Fever and headaches were gone in 24 hours but my arm is still red and sore after 48 hours

Sadik · 20/06/2021 18:13

Sore arm but no more after the first one. Second one I woke up in the night (so I guess 18 hours or so after the jab) feeling pretty rough - achey, feverish etc but went away with paracetamol. Was really out of it the next day & slept through most of it, absolutely fine by the following morning & since then (7 days now) all been OK.

Halfwreckedbykids · 04/07/2021 06:39

Got my second one last week.
Got tired 6 hrs after and within 3 hours of that I had a temp of 40. Jaws locked and I was freezing and in a pool of sweat.
Aches and pains all over and couldn't get out of bed on my own.
It was like the flu, proper flu.
I took neurophen or panadol every 3 hrs and temp dropped to 38 with that for a bit but back to 40 before next dose. Couldn't sleep but got a half hour sleep when temp dropped.
Lasted 48 hrs and still tired but on the mend now.
It's still worth it but I did need DH to stay home even though kids are 12 and 15 because it was scary for them even though we knew what we were dealing with and it would go away.

My breathing did go funny but the temps flared my asthma so on steroids now to fix that.

All in all it wasn't the best few days
Good luck....I read that menopause does effect the experience.

Halfwreckedbykids · 04/07/2021 06:44

Just to be on the safe side stock up on neurphen and panadol and dioralyte (rehydration powder I used to give kids but re balanced tge salts etc and easy to drink)

cptartapp · 04/07/2021 07:31

What gap have people had with the Moderna. DS had his last week, wondering what the minimum gap is. I've read 28 days for Moderna??

Halfwreckedbykids · 04/07/2021 07:39

I was 4 weeks and 5 days

Redcrayons · 04/07/2021 07:43

First one sore arm did a few says, otherwise ok
Second one proper flu symptoms, the following day. Stupidly booked myself s busy day at work as I assumed I’d be fine and had to have the afternoon off. The day after that all fine.

@cptartapp mine was 10 weeks as they only changed the 12 week rule when I was at 9 weeks. Currently you can’t book earlier than 8 weeks and I know people who have been turned away if they go earlier. It depends where you are though, As it seems some centres might do it earlier at the drop in clinics.

DaisyWaldron · 04/07/2021 07:46

I'm having my second dose today. It will be an 11 week gap for me.

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 04/07/2021 08:34

Barely anything after first, just pretty tired the next day. Arm was a tiny bit sore but went quickly.

I had my second last week, with an 8.5 week gap. Had it at 8.30am, by the evening I was really tired and quite achy. I just felt run down, and I had no appetite, just wanted cold drinks. I went to bed early and was ok-ish the next day, apart from a much more sore arm than before. Even that went after a further 24 hours. So nothing terrible!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/07/2021 12:27

I had the second last Monday - I think the gap was about six weeks? I felt rough the next day, like a bad hangover. I went back to bed after checking work emails etc, slept on and off until lunchtime, then felt a bit better after eating something. If I hadn’t been able to be flexible work-wise (and at home), I might have called in sick.

By teatime and 24 hours after the jab I was fine other than a sore arm.

DaisyWaldron · 05/07/2021 09:11

I had mine at 11.30 yesterday, along with DH, 11 weeks after the first dose. With my first dose, I had a slightly achy arm and mild hangover symptoms. My arm started hurting yesterday not long after the vaccine, and by late afternoon I had a headache, although that might have been caused by the thunderstorm rather than the vaccine. I was tired in the evening, and dozed on the sofa from around 9pm. When I went to bed, my arm hurt enough to make undressing difficult. I woke up at around 2am because my arm was very sore, and DH woke up around an hour after that with a fever. He took some paracetamol and went back to sleep. I stayed awake, with a mild headache, muscle pains, sensitive skin, mild nausea, a sore arm and thirst. I got a couple of hours more sleep. By 7am DH's fever had gone, and he is now mostly tired with a slight headache.

I am feeling rough, but my no means dreadful, and am about to take a painkiller for the headache and achy muscles. I can't use my left arm properly, but it doesn't hurt unless I try to my my arm from the shoulder or bump the muscle.

So my symptoms are definitely a lot worse than they were after the first dose, but at the level of moderately bad hangover, or severe PMS rather than flu.

@HermioneWeasley

Far worse than the first. Had it in the later afternoon. By 10pm my arm was aching and by 2am I was awake with flu like symptoms. Chills and shivering that turned into a high temperature and I ached all over.

4 days post vax I am now feeling I am over it.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 05/07/2021 09:14

Also the gap was 9 weeks for me.

SmallestInTheClass · 05/07/2021 09:51

First one, really sore arm and a bit tired the evening after I had it done. Second one- hot and cold and shivery, headache, aches and fatigue about 12 hours afterwards. Went to bed early, dosed up on paracetamol but didn't sleep. Had to take the next morning off work but was feeling pretty much back to normal by the afternoon.

Comefromaway · 05/07/2021 09:55

1st dose - Very, very sore arm. Muzzy head, extreme tiredness but pleasantly tired.

2nd dose - slightly sore arm. Headache (only required 1 paracetamol not 2). Felt a bit restless/hot and cold overnight.

Both times I booked the following day off work/weekend and I didn'd do very much. I also drank loads of water.

Anothermuddywalk · 05/07/2021 10:05

First one I just had a sore arm and a bit "foggy" headed for about a week. Had second last week (8 week gap) and had sore arm again, and felt cold/shivery and achey the next day, but still worked all day, so wasn't awful. Felt fine again the next day.
