DD1 to self isolate DD2 to go to school?

Had a phone call from school this morning. A friend of DD1 is positive for corona. So DD1 is being sent home to self isolate. They want us to send DD2 to school. How does this work?
If DD1 is possibly infected so will DD2. Both me and my dh have had both vaccinations.
I know dd2 won't want to go to school next week. Can we keep them off?

No you can't keep dd2 off, she is only a contact of a contact. Dd1 is a direct close contact so needs to isolate in case but is still unlikely to have it.

My DS is isolating after positive case at school. I am self isolating after being in contact with nieces who both tested positive. DD is still able to go to school and DP still able to work. Unless your DD1 develops symptoms everyone else in your household is fine to go about your days.

Only those with COVID and close contacts of those with COVID need to self isolate. Your DD1 is a close contact but DD2 isn't.

Nobody else in your household needs to isolate unless one of you develops symptoms or tests positive.

Your DD2 is not a contact with a confirmed positive case. If your DD1 goes on to test positive during her 10 day isolation then yoyr DD2 would be a contact of that positive case and would begin isolating.

Contacts or contacts don't need to isolate. By the way, DD1 qualifies for a PCR test as a contact (even with no symptons) so if she's not feeling well in general she can be tested.

bbut even if teh pcr is negative, she still has to finish the ten days isolation period.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 18/06/2021 14:07

Because the average incubation period is c.5 days - so DD1 can't have infected anyone yet. If you follow basic precautionary measures at home (social distance as much as possible, keep house well aired, wash hands etc etc) then you hopefully minimise possibility of infecting DD2.

If you wanted to be super cautious - be particularly vigilant around day 4/5/6.

You could also test DD1 on day 5.

This has changed in the past week in our area due to a rise in cases. If one sibling is self isolating, the other(s) have to stay at home as well. But this is a local decision

DD2 has now been sent home as covid in their class so both now at home
