Does anyone have an estimate? It is DS own decision, btw. Will be ignoring any posters who start a debate on why he should be.

I think it depends where you live mare

My brand new 18 year old has had the jab but his 22 year old brother who lives in a different town hasn’t, and they haven’t opened it up for booking where he is

MareofBeasttown · 17/06/2021 09:33

Of course it does. I live in SE London. DS takes the Tube everyday to school, hence his desire to get vaxxed.

My dd is keen.

She is (hopefully) off to university in September but is not yet 18.

Wilkolampshade · 17/06/2021 09:38

Good for him @MareofBeasttown Smile but not sure it's poss to give even an estimate is it? My DD2, (19) had her 1st 3 weeks ago in West London, DD1 (21) appt has only just come through for next week in Edinburgh..

OpalBerry · 17/06/2021 09:40

I'd like to know too. Dd is 17 soon. 18 year olds have been invited where I am. I have a 14 year old too. Hope they don't have a huge wait

Just found this www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57496074.amp

Sunnysausage · 17/06/2021 09:42

They’re not planning to vaccinate under 18s in the immediate future according to this:

Oh:( DH is diabetic. I wonder if DS will qualify under that category.

I think at the moment he should assume he'll get offered a vaccine when he turns 18. Pfizer is licenced for children in the UK but there are no plans to vaccinate yet. That may change depending on the data that comes from Israel and the US. The risk from Covid is very low for children so he shouldn't worry too much.

MareofBeasttown · 17/06/2021 09:49

I didn't realise the studies on children were that small, as the article says. Maybe it is best to wait then.

He is not terribly worried but lots of kids in his class have begun to isolate, and it's A levels, so if it was safe for him he would have just got it.

Yes I think your ds will qualify MareofBeasttown

Yes just saw that myself

OpalBerry · 17/06/2021 11:30

I wonder what age of children with risk factors they've offered the vax to. A friend's 17 year old had it in Feb due to having diabetes. I wonder how young they've offered to. 16+?
I feel a bit reassured by the article that my dc don't need it as no risk factors

My 16 year old DD and 18 year old DD have had theirs. Got the invite a few weeks ago. Lots of that age group have in our borough (a north London Borough).

You need to ask your GP, but it's really only households of the immune compromised subset of CEV who qualify.

My 16+ DC who live at home have already been done because we have a CEV person (with a condition which means no one knows for sure that the vaccine works well)

kkneat · 17/06/2021 21:19

My DD’s don’t have any risk factors we seem to be ahead in our borough (and neighbouring one) definitely depends where you live as previously stated by a poster

Ah @kkneat I think we live in the same borough! I posted before about not understanding how they were allowed to do this here but I'm all for it, if it helps these kids' schools stay open next term. We've missed stupid amounts of GCSE work, don't want the same issues with A-levels. 18 & 19 year olds first started getting invitations here perhaps 4-5 weeks ago, and somehow they've found a loophole which has allowed them to routinely vaccinate 16 & 17 year olds over the last three or so weeks. Many of DD's Y11 friends have been "done". I just hope it continues long enough to catch DD who is not 16 until later in the summer.
kkneat · 17/06/2021 21:54

Yes we could be @PuffingPansy! My DD’s received invite on same day. I left it up to them to decide they were both very keen.

Firefliess · 17/06/2021 22:28

Soon I hope, but the BBC leak suggests not. DD is not 18 till August. She applied for a job as a ward assistant in a hospital which have pretty much said they'll take her when she's 18. Once an NHS worker she'll be eligible for the jab, but they'll either have to wait 14 weeks for her to be double dosed, or let her work while posing a risk to vulnerable patients. They seem to have forgotten that 16-17 year olds are adults in most respects, in the workplace and old enough to make their own medical decisions. All her friends can book tomorrow, but she can't. Also means 2/12 of new university students this autumn won't be jabbed, which isn't good given the problems caused by fresher's weeks last year. Angry

QuimReaper · 17/06/2021 22:45

I am amazed about this London borough, I keep hearing we're way behind the rest of the country!

Wallywobbles · 17/06/2021 22:56

I don't understand why it's taking so long to get to the younger age groups in the UK.

I'm in France and we are currently vaccinating the 12-18 age group for 1 st vaccines but we started way later. We've vaccinated totally or partially 31 million with 300k per day. In the Uk 42 million have been fully or partially vaccinated, but still not the 12-18s. It's confusing.

GentlemanBurglar · 17/06/2021 23:08

Nothing to do with being slow; there is simply no policy to vaccinate under 18s in this country which I think is very wrong. They should offer it to 14+ or 16+ at the very least, to minimise disruption to GCSE and ALevel students going forward.

And @Firefliess you have a very good point about new freshers in the autumn. They really need to be full vaccinated a good two weeks before term starts which means starting on, even for those who don't turn 18 til August. I wouldn't wish what happened to the 2020 cohort on anyone; what an awful, stressful start to independent adult life.

Hardtoknowwhat · 18/06/2021 07:54

My DD, 17, had hers a couple of weeks ago. GP practice had surplus Pfizer stocks so opened up to 16-18 year group. I agree with PP who said 16-18 year olds are practically adults, pt jobs etc.. If they're happy to get the vaccine (which my DD was) I think they should be given the chance.
