Also need to check your insurance as would be travelling against FCO advice.

MaggieFS · 14/06/2021 23:33

@ineedaholidaynow

Not strictly true, the FCDO advice for France and many other European countries is against 'all but essential travel' rather than against 'all travel', so many insurers will cover this. As you say, needs checking with the specific insurer.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/06/2021 23:35

The OP is going to see family, so assume falls within non essential travel

MrsIsobelCrawley · 14/06/2021 23:43

The issue won't be whether Johnson allows us to go.

With the increase of the delta variant, the problem will be will other countries allow us in.

Not for insurers. If someone happened to a member of my family then it is essential. Me wanting to go to see them cuz I’ve nor see them for nearly 2 years I don’t think it’s essential on the eyes of the insurer.

Dh and I will be fully vaccinated but not my teenage sons so it means they will have to quarantine. We are not flying but using thd shuttle.

Your children don’t have to isolate when traveling to France if you both are vaccinated www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4249925-Support-thread-for-those-with-family-abroad?msgid=108187662#108187662

Yes, always said it will return for summer recess. MP's will want their summer holidays in France and Italy etc.

Petitefiloute · 15/06/2021 10:11

@edgeware

You can go now. Testing and quarantine yes but you don’t need a reason.
That's not correct. Some countries like France for example require a compelling reason to travel there if you aren't fully vaccinated.
EasterIssland · 15/06/2021 10:14

@petitefiloute so if the op is fully vaccinated they can go, also this is up to France's measurements and not up to uk's. uk doesnt ban travelling to France

You just have to bite the bullet and go - because if you wait until restrictions are lifted are both ends, you will wait forever.

I can see no logical reason for many European countries being on the amber list. Very low case numbers (eg Germany 7 day incidence of 16.6, total of 13790 cases in the last week), no delta variant - so why do people flying into UK have to pay an extra £300 in tests. Where is the data to support the amber listings?

Greece have had 6,033 cases in the last 7 days and many islands are 60-70% vaccinated now (the priority for Greece is vaccinating small islands to improve access to their health systems and vaccinating islands for tourism to open up tourism to greece. I want to visit my family on an island that is just under 70% vaccinated and had no cases in over a month and yet I still cant go.

Non essential travel now allowed. Despite being double vaccinated I am going to see my DH for the weekend in the Netherlands and need to be tested 5 times. A PCR and Lateral Flow to enter. A PCR to get back to the U.K. A day 2 and day 8 when back. And here I was thinking being double vaccinated would be enough. But my marriage is important so for now I have to suck it up. It’s ridiculous though.

MaloInAnAppleTree · 15/06/2021 12:19

My guess (though it is a guess) is that in five weeks time the delta variant will have started kicking off in other European nations, so our ability to travel is dependent on them continuing to get good vaccine progress in that time and continuing evidence that vaccination can hold the line against this variant.

I’m quietly optimistic but not enough to book anything.

I think that’s a realistic prediction.

Why do you need two tests to enter NL? Confused
newnortherner111 · 15/06/2021 15:28

I expect many countries will still require quarantine or not admit you. Our regime for travel abroad and back has been very lax despite the spin the Prime Minister may put on it.

Blessex · 16/06/2021 05:40

@Schulte because the Netherlands require anyone entering to have a pcr test within 3 days of travel PLUS a lateral flow test within 24 hours of travel. Yes a bit overkill right? Especially now I am double vaccinated and already had Covid. But thems the rools. I also need to fill in a relationship form to prove I am in a long distance relationship. I travel with my wedding certificate and proof of Dutch address.

PracticingPerson · 16/06/2021 05:57

It looks like travel will get no easier for the foreseeable.

Preston had some thoughts on the political reasons why: mobile.twitter.com/Peston/status/1404522825562664966

PracticingPerson · 16/06/2021 05:58

Haha not Preston, Robert Peston Grin

NameyNameyNameChangey · 16/06/2021 06:14

We might be allowed out, it's completely dependent on the countries we want to go to if they allow us to enter and on which terms, I suppose.

EasterIssland · 17/06/2021 10:12

This is so good news for those of us that want to travel this summer and have had the vaccines !

What about taking children though? Will they have to quarantine on return to UK?

Watapalava · 17/06/2021 17:33

It’s fab news

Kids have to isolate but I expect most wont bother

I wouldn’t make mine isolate once all adults vaccinated

don't think so but no idea, its only an idea they might debate.
Quartz2208 · 17/06/2021 19:04

Cases isnt actually the important bottom line in all of this - its is how vaccines work with the Delta variant particularly the impact on hospitialisations and deaths.

We got it first - it is now 10% of US cases and 6% in Germany and France. It is there.

THe impact of not opening the travel industry is August is HUGE. It is I think whether that impact tips the scales to opening. I think with the vaccination push here, the US and Europe I think it will open up sometime in August
