That's it really, I can't see anything that would stop it in the rules and regulations but anyone else got any insight?

Which country?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/06/2021 15:45

In England I can’t see that’s a problem. Residentials take place now.

Girlmama3 · 14/06/2021 15:46

I guess it would depend how many are going, where they're going and what they'll be doing.

My friends dd went to a camp site with her school 2 weeks ago so they're still running x

Scarby9 · 14/06/2021 15:46

School residentials are happening here currently. The DfE covid guidance allowed domestic residentials from 17 May.

There is currently no suggestion that the 'freedoms' we have now will be rescinded, just that new ones are likely to be delayed.

onemouseplace · 14/06/2021 15:47

Residentials can taken place now. The biggest risk at the moment I would say is the bubble bursting, so they can't go as supposed to be self-isolating.

ASchuylerSister · 14/06/2021 15:48

I saw a local school (primary) all go off on their residential today.

Not sure where to but it would definitely be UK based. Although with the amount of luggage they all had it could well be a round the world trip Grin

Quartz2208 · 14/06/2021 15:52

Yes at DS schools Year 6 have done PGL, Year 5 have done there postponed Year 4 trip and Year 4 are going beginning july.

May 17th started that up so its fine

capercaillie · 14/06/2021 15:56

Depends on numbers in class, whether provider can maintain separate school bubbles and whether teachers are happy to take them…

That's great thank you for comments (NC due to another post). We are in England and place is in Wales, would that make a difference? 3 classes of 30 will be going (year bubble), would that impact anything?
butitsatalkingdog · 14/06/2021 15:58

My DS was meant to have 1 overnight residential last week but they weren't allowed. They went in the day, came home then returned the following morning.

timtam23 · 14/06/2021 16:10

Our y6 residential has been cancelled (should have been happening now) I think one of several issues was that if anyone in the group displayed covid symptoms, the residential venue would expect the whole group to leave immediately and isolate, and the coach company would not bring them home due to the covid symptoms/the rest of the group having to isolate, so all pupils and teachers would have to be picked up individually from the venue (several hours away). In the end the school decided to cancel while they could still do so under the insurance policy. They are doing some day trips, activities and fun things instead, so the sleepover part of it is missing, but the replacement plans seem to have gone down well with the children

Hellocatshome · 14/06/2021 16:22

My DS in year 6 has gone on his residential today, by all accounts they are having a wonderful time. So yes its possible it will still go ahead.

bootle96 · 14/06/2021 16:42

My year 6 ds left for his residential today. It's a big school so 80+ kids going. So definitely possible depending on the school.

Ginismyfriend · 14/06/2021 16:51

DD did hers last week (again, big school so around 100 went). They stayed for two nights and had an amazing time. I’ve heard of a lot being moved to daytime-only though.

blameitonthecaffeine · 14/06/2021 17:02

Ours have all been fine so far. Restrictions aren't the problem, schools set up around the restrictions that have already lifted rather than get children excited for something that might not happen.

The real threat is isolations and cases preventing them from going.

We have the same issue with school productions. They can still happen and we can still have an audience 50% of the capacity of the hall/theatre. But we're on tenterhooks that some or all them will end up isolating and it won't happen.

capercaillie · 14/06/2021 22:16

Yes it does possibly make a difference if the residential in Wales. Welsh schools aren’t able to do residentials at the moment. I’ve heard some advice that English schools therefore also can’t do residentials there. It’s definitely a grey area

pinkcattydude · 14/06/2021 22:20

Ours they can only go on it if the parents are willing to travel and get the child should there be any symptoms (luckily only going 2 hours away)

BunsyGirl · 14/06/2021 23:45

My DS had his residential three weeks ago.

35andThriving · 15/06/2021 18:22

Fingers crossed for your ds, op.

needtositdown · 16/06/2021 22:24

Cancelled Sad

sproutsandparsnips · 16/06/2021 22:42

We are in Wales and dc residential cancelled a few weeks ago on advice from WAG. School had been hopeful to go ahead.

SonnetForSpring · 16/06/2021 22:48

My son's is still happening in July.

Rollercoaster1920 · 16/06/2021 22:54

Ours was cancelled ages ago, and confirmed cancelled recently. because the Richmond Upon Thames borough cannot insure them due to COVID.
