Anyone had Delta variant in household?

I know this is a how-long-is-a-piece-of-string question really, but be interested to know people's experience of COVID in the family in last 3-4 weeks (ie, likely to be delta). How quickly did it spread to others? Did everyone get it? What were symptoms like?

DS (9) had fatigue and very high temperature yesterday, testing today - he hasn't got up yet, but I checked on him in the night and he was still hot and restless so I suspect he is not going to be A-OK this morning and it's not just the hot weather. We are suppsed to have DD's bat mitzvah (already postponed from last year) in just under a fortnight, but if this is COVID, from what I can tell from all I've heard of Delta, we're not likely to avoid at least one other family member catching it.

DH and I are 2 months into 1st vaccine but not had 2nd, DD obviously hasn't had vaccine.

I'm not worried anyone will be seriously ill, but I'll be gutted to miss synagogue service and so much work will be wasted - we have a Zoom celebration lined up for this weekend, it's supposed to be professionally filmed but obviously they won't be able to come here if anyone's ill, so hopefully we'll be well enough to DIY a simple one ourselves. We do have a small party planned, but it's fairly simple and we can postpone for another day as it's at a family home.

DS18 and DS13 both had v strong lines on the positive lateral flows then positive PCRs. Was the Delta variant. DS who had Covid at Christmas didn't catch it and neither did me or
DH, both fully vaccinated.
They had sore throats, headaches, colds, coughs. More like cold symptoms. Both fine now.

@Chailatteplease

That’s odd. I thought there wasn’t a false positive risk with LFT’s, only false negative s?
I don’t know the official line on it, but definitely a false positive on a LFT and negative PCR as my ds was a close contact and had to isolate for the 24 hours between the 2 results. Everyone was allowed back to school once the negative PCR was confirmed. It happened again - it might have been year 8 actually, can’t remember - the school emails us every time there is a positive result of either description - there has only been one PCR positive case since they went back.

Well, nearly a month later and I had my 2nd jab a week and a half ago, but after a few days of my daughter being sniffly, I got sniffly and also a really sore throat, so had a test this morning (as has DD). Started coughing a little this afternoon - I think this may be it!

Sounds like it

My dd came home from school with a sore throat, headache next day and a raging temp in the evening. She tested positive with a pcr

It's now been 5 days since her first symptom and so far (fingers crossed) the other 4 in the home haven't had any symptoms. We're all doing a pcr this morning though to check

Hope you're all ok

Still waiting for results. DH is breezily convinced it can't be it because he hasn't read the stuff saying that delta is like a cold and also I think he thinks it's unlikely because of the vaccine, but he isn't on social media as much as me where I've seen a reasonable number of jabbed people still getting it.

I slept much better last night, though not brilliantly, coughed a little but not loads - throat still v sore but possibly not as much as it was in the night. Had a few sweaty bits in the night, but nothing that feels like fever, no aches and haven't had that woozy fatigue feeling so I'm hoping this is as bad as it gets. DD seems fine now.

Sore throat, snotty, headache, hot and most horrendous cough, just got my result and it was negative.

friendlymum67 · 11/07/2021 09:39

@Katya213 Was that an LFT or PCR test?

Katya213 · 11/07/2021 09:47

PCR. Lfts all negative too.

Grimacingfrog · 11/07/2021 09:50

Husband got symptoms last Sunday after probably getting it the previous Thursday at the cricket. I started being ill on the Monday. I've had it before and am less ill than last time but same symptoms, just milder. Neither of my young adult children who are with us are showing any symptoms and have negative LFTs but are isolating until next week.

Grimacingfrog · 11/07/2021 09:51

Oh and I had negative LFTs but husband's was positive. We've both been double jabbed.

Grimacingfrog · 11/07/2021 09:55

Sorry, you asked about symptoms. Husband had a headache, sweating, fuzzy head and backache. I had stomach upset, sore throat, fuzzy head slight brethlessness and fatigue, exactly what I had last year when I got it but milder which I put down to the vaccination.

Echobelly · 11/07/2021 09:59

I seem to be burping and having quite a lot of wind as well Blush. But maybe that's just me... no results yet.

I do think some people get stomach issues with it. It seems to attack different people in different ways.

DumplingsAndStew · 11/07/2021 10:04

My friends family have it at the moment. (All adults/young adults)

Child 2 was asked to isolate and test as a friend was positive. He was positive and went on to become symptomatic a few days later.

Other 4 in the house did a few LFts - negative, but 3 of them did PCRs on day 3, then Child 1 got a positive. He later became symptomatic.

Few days later, everyone else did another PCR as Child 3 and Dad were feeling unwell. Child 3 was asked to retest, which came back positive.

Dad still feeling very ill, but all negative this far. Mum negative, but isolating from the rest of the house as far as possible as CEV.

There seems to be a few days between one passing it on to the next, despite staying as far apart as they can (child 1 and 2 share a room, and they all share a bathroom). As far as I know, they are reporting very sore throats, coughing, bad headache/migraine, fatigue and fluey type pains.

DumplingsAndStew · 11/07/2021 10:04

Oh and Child 2 has lost his sense of taste and smell, Child 3 is having digestive issues, but that's not unheard of for her anyway.

Echobelly · 11/07/2021 10:29

I developed symptoms 2 days after DD was very sniffly.

DS has been sniffly in the mornings since Monday - I didn't think too much of it as he's often sniffly, but I took his temp on Monday as a check and it was normal.

I had two episodes of this over the last couple of weeks with lots of burping and wind. Very unusual for me. Iwondered if it was some sort of virus.
Echobelly · 11/07/2021 15:08

Well results are back and both negative which surprises me a bit - I do get a lot of colds so I know this is just not any old normal summer cold, but who knows? DD did say several mates had a bad cold but never tested positive, so maybe it is a thing.

Also slightly disappointed in an odd way - as I said, if we're going to have it, this week would be about the best timing to get it over and done with!

OP posts:
Echobelly · 11/07/2021 15:11

At any rate it's a nasty bug so I think I will keep contact outside the house minimal until I'm feeling better - I WFH so that's not difficult, and I'm feeling too crummy to go anywhere today.

OP posts:
mrsmoppp · 11/07/2021 15:41

My dh and dd had it 2 weeks ago but we didn't find out which variant it was.

Echobelly · 11/07/2021 16:08

I think one can probably assume it's delta at the moment!

I'm vaguely wonder if, given DD had a cold that was just a very blocked nose and no other symptoms, there's a chance that the fact my second vaccination is still in the process of 'bedding in' (as it was under 3 weeks ago) might have somehow caused me to have a strong reaction to her cold virus? Pure conjecture, but might explain the difference in our response to same virus.
