Anyone know anything about antibody tests?

I’m in the UAE so not in the UK . Vaccinated with Sinopharm (second dose was end of January ). Never had Covid (to my knowledge). Out of curiosity and because of anxieties (that’s a whole other story!), I had a Covid antibody test and my results was 28.26 u/l. Does anyone know what this means? I understand it is positive (ie there are antibodies there) but is it high? Low? Higher or lower than what would be expected after being vaccinated? I would be grateful if anyone could elaborate.

Trying to figure this out for you. I did find this, as an example of numerical results you might expect:

www.citymd.com/understanding-your-spike-protein-results

which shows results as U/mL (i.e. per millilitre, whereas you've listed your results as per litre. So there are 1000 ml in 1 litre, which means that 28.26 units/l = 0.02826 units per ml. This seems to me to be very low. I wouldn't go by the range given in that example as labs can vary, and your result is stated as positive, but my feeling is your positive is a 'weak' positive.

Disclaimer: I may be wrong!

Thank you for replying - much appreciated. I’m now regretting Sinopharm!

Sorry… I made a mistake . I should have written u/ml.

I’m praying that means it’s a better result 🙈

I’m doing a monthly antibody test for a study. The antibodies tested for are those from infection, not vaccination.

Aha! Yes I did wonder if you'd mis-written it. Well, according to the only other info I could find said:

“Antibodies in the blood are measured in the International Unit (IU). Its range is from 0 to 1000. Usually 10 IU per ml is considered a cut off. Levels between 10 and 1000 are considered protective. However, it may not always be correlated. People with count below 10 can also avoid the disease through cell immunity which is not measured by antibody test.”

The average count comes from 300 to 1000 after the second shot of the vaccine.

So sadly that does mean your levels are low.

BUT remember 'it's not all about the antibodies'. Smile

yes, i heard a doctor on the radio making this point last week. he said if you have an antibody test after having vaccination, make sure it is the right kind of test, otherwise it may not pick up the true level. so you may be more protected than it seems. he said standard tests will not detect fully the antibodies made as a reaction to the vaccine.

Thanks all of you . This is useful info .

I'm in UAE. Am 52. My antibody tests were negative or borderline after 3 months (end of January). I've now had first dose of Pfizer and second will be next week. You can get Pfizer 6 months after Sinopharm now (the window was 3 months very briefly which is how I managed it). Pretty much all of my friends have done the same. Cleveland is booked up to August now.....

And I meant to say, the was the 3 test version done by Biogenix/G42 not HSMC. This gave results for anti-N, anti-S and neutralising antibodies.

That’s what I’m hoping too… Pfizer booster here I come! Thank you.
