Local Wetherspoons stopped extra Covid cleaning since reopening

Has anyone else noticed their local pubs or cafes have gone back to their usual standards pre Covid? My local Wetherspoons has got really grott with tables not being cleaned after every customer, food lying around on the floor, really filthy sticky floor where it is not being washed. My local has actually got worse than what it was like pre Covid that it’s no longer safe to eat in. It’s so bad I’m expecting a huge increase of Coronavirus transmissions in the locality. Anybody else experience this?

To be fair poor old Tim can't get the staff to do cleaning, not since they all went back to Europe.

QueenStromba · 13/06/2021 18:29

Surface transmission is thought to be very rare. That's manky though.

LemonRoses · 13/06/2021 18:30

I couldn’t go into a weatherspoons on principle.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 13/06/2021 18:30

No, most places seem to be trying to reassure customers by still doing extra cleaning. Go somewhere else.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/06/2021 18:30

Are you licking the floor and tables?

Covid is airborne. I believe it's been widely agreed that it doesn't really spread through surface transmission. It sounds gross for hygiene reasons but not high risk for Covid.

Orf1abc · 13/06/2021 18:32

Do you expect anything better from Wetherspoons? Give your business to a local business that doesn't treat their staff and customers like crap.

Shelovesamystery · 13/06/2021 18:39

Most restaurants can barely get enough staff to cook and serve the food atm, let alone do extra "look how seriously we take covid" cleaning. Hospitality has serious staffing issues, partly due to experienced chefs and servers working in other industries during closures and realising that hospitality is incredibly stressful and really hard work for shit money.

As a pp has said, covid is airborne so I don't think that a lack of cleaning is going to cause an increase in transmission. But, yes, it's gross and not acceptable. Go elsewhere.

ChocOrange1 · 13/06/2021 18:42

I don't understand why this would have been acceptable before covid, and why covid makes any difference.
Food on the floor and sticky floors is gross, but its not a covid risk is it.

RightOnTheEdge · 13/06/2021 18:42

Wetherspoons don't treat their staff like crap. It's very boring to read that all the time.

That's not really good enough OP and it's a shame, not all Wetherspoons are like that whatever snobs on here think.
A lot of staff take pride in their work and try to keep things clean but not all staff care. Like anywhere there's good places and bad places.

I will say though that the table service is putting massive pressure on staff because a lot of places are short staffed and taking orders is an extra thing that takes time but there is not the extra staff to make up for it.

RaspberryCoulis · 13/06/2021 18:47

I think you'll probably be fine as long as you don't lick the floor. Hmm

Mankiness is one thing and you are of course entitled to vote with your feet and drink elsewhere. But unwiped surfaces and a sticky floor is going to make bugger all difference.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 13/06/2021 18:47

That’s just modern British quality though. Skimp on staff and wages, still charge a fortune and be feckless, lax, & unprofessional. Why I’m not rushing back to chain hospitality any time ever.

Kitkat151 · 13/06/2021 18:47

Our Wetherspoons are cleaning between customers....I’ve seen them....verY thoroughly too

Wilkolampshade · 13/06/2021 19:46

'Spoons is a shit-hole though... What do you expect? 🤷‍♀️

Againstmachine · 13/06/2021 19:49

Either go in or don't.

I know plenty of happy spoons staff but keep peddling you agendas

TotorosCatBus · 13/06/2021 19:51

The extra cleaning would help keep non Covid illness down too. Some drinkers aren't averse to leaving bodily fluids amongst their spills or not washing their hands properly after going to the loo.

LEMtheoriginal · 13/06/2021 19:53

Our local weatherspoons is relatively nice, but in neighbouring towns they are fucking grim. We certainly haven't rushed back following covid.

Againstmachine · 13/06/2021 19:55

Because no other pub has drinkers who don't wash their hands.

Ostara212 · 13/06/2021 19:55

Never mind Covid, it sounds grim full stop.

Vote with your feet!

newnortherner111 · 13/06/2021 20:06

I went into one in early December and that was not my experience. Indeed on the few occasions I have sinned and gone into one it has been clean.

Maybe it is your local one that is the issue.

Tarano17 · 13/06/2021 20:10

I am voting with my feet and won’t be going back. When the kitchen chef leaves the toilet door open when she is using the loo and management laugh it off then you can only imagine what occurs when the chef is in the kitchen. It’s vile.

Or spell it.
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 13/06/2021 20:13

Your concerns may be valid for general hygiene but a sticky floor and table is going to make no difference at all to the rate of catching covid anywhere

Luckily no one is forced to go anywhere they don't feel comfortable in to spend their money

YarnOver · 13/06/2021 20:38

I can confirm that from my experience they definitely do treat staff like crap. It might well vary from branch to branch but the one I worked in was bloody awful.
LemonRoses · 13/06/2021 20:40

LucilleTheVampireBat Not really a name I need to know how to spell.

Mum2jenny · 13/06/2021 20:41

If you don’t like it, go elsewhere. You get what you pay for.
I quite like Wetherspoons but obviously it’s not for everyone. No sticky surfaces near here tho’
