Covid

Upset after vaccine

I had the covid vaccine yesterday and I'm upset about it. I couldn't stop crying yesterday.

I was slightly scared about catching covid but I also think my mind wasn't clear about whether or not I wanted to get it as the narrative seems to suggest we'll have to have vaccine passports etc.

Family and friends have all had the vaccine and I didn't want to be left behind. I felt pressure to take it even though it is not mandatory yet.

I don't know why I'm typing this. Anyone else feel like this?
@mangojango - do you often waste time on pointless regret? You can’t remove the vaccine from your body, now, so stop dwelling on it. As for the ridiculous idea that you would not have had a problem with covid but might have something horrendous go wrong with you as a result of the vaccine: you do know we have no idea what the lifelong effects of covid are either, don’t you? Or has the fact that is also novel passed you by?
Do you often waste time being horrible and insulting to strangers online who have confessed to feeling a little upset and worried about something that was for them a big decision? Or has regular human empathy passed you by?

No. Am so relieved I just had my second so I won’t catch Covid.

@Blessex

This isn’t true. The vaccine does not stop you from catching Covid.

It reduces your chances of ending up in a hospital.

The vaccine significantly reduces transmission, it's not impossible that a vaccinated individual could contract covid but it's much less likely.

Personally, if I was very set against having the vaccine, I wouldn’t have it based on current pressure. Yes there is always talk about vaccine passports and not being allowed in the pub without a vaccine and so on but none of it has come to pass. So while I might feel forced to get it in the future, I wouldn’t have gotten it now and certainly wouldn’t be putting the responsibility for that decision on other people.

You say you are at low risk from COVID because you are young, healthy, fit and female. And yet I know of two women in their 30s who were all of those things and who died from it. It wasn’t even at the peak of the waves - one was late August 2020 and the other end of March 2021. Both had small children. It’s not very frequent, but it does happen, and when it does the horror is unimaginable. I’ve had two doses and my husband has had one. I’m counting the days until he gets his second one and I can breathe more easily.

I don't really understand your thinking. Hadn't it already been confirmed vaccine passports were not going to be a thing.
If you didn't want it why have it?
If you had some serious side effects I could understand your feelings. Sorry did you as I have stupidly tryoed s response before reading full thread.

Less than 80 people under the age of 40, without underlying health conditions, have died of Covid.
How ironic that you should happen to know two of them....

I believe if I’m not mistaken that those are the stats for the first wave, not the second, when more young people were affected. Secondly I live in London and work in a large team for a big company so “I know of” quite a lot of people.

Everyone has different opinions and feelings regarding the vaccines.

I was a little nervous and I'm all for every type of vaccine. I think from reading on here stressed me a little.

When I got my 1st dose I felt no different, still don't, actually I forget I have had it. I'm due my 2nd dose in 2 weeks and I feel much more relaxed about it.

I think when I watched live footage in India where families were punching hospital staff to save their loved ones from dying and the staff hiding in cupboards and people sitting in cars robbing oxygen tanks to help them breath that I suddenly realised that I could never go through that.

I believe covid is real, the amount of friends and family that have had it is so upsetting. My good friend died last year. She was young, in her 30s, young children, she was fit and healthy, decent weight, no drink or smoke, no underlying conditions. When I saw her young children scream as she was lowered into the ground I thought fuck, anyone can get this and either be bad or die. I know it was early days and not much was known about it but you must realise that people have and still are dying from this. Not everyone has underlying conditions, one of my sil has long covid, nearly a year later and she's nearly bald, she uses an inhaler now, she constantly get lung and chest infections, her memory is so bad that she writes everything down. Her kidneys are now been checked out as there has been a lot of damage to them, she is a personal trainer she never ended up in hospital, she was sick for 2 weeks and she kept saying it was like flu.

There's so many different stories that it really opens my eyes. They've trialled these vaccines and yes even I get a bit worried if they were trialled enough but if it means that I get covid and don't suffer and die then that's a huge bonus.

I really can’t understand this. If I looked at all (reliable) available info and decided I didn’t want the vaccine then I wouldn’t have it. No one is forcing you to.
Had both mine. A relief after shielding.

@Deliaskis - I lost my empathy for the OP when I stopped believing in their sincerity: when he/she said they were young, fit, healthy, did not suffer from anxiety, and started asking why there was not more opposition to the vaccines; claimed vaccines were unnecessary for herd immunity; questioned the vaccines’ safety as though they are more dangerous than covid itself (despite it not being the AZ vaccine they were given, given that they think they are one of those who is being asked to sacrifice themselves purely for the benefit of others, so are clearly in a young age group, and presumably are fine with others dying around them if they think there is no actual benefit to them in being involved in stopping it)). Basically, I ceased to have empathy for someone who can still hold onto the belief that covid is not their problem and that they are having to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of others, that it would and should have been entirely possible for them to carry on their life as normal whilst the pandemic went on around them, and who resents having actively chosen to be vaccinated because they think they might need a vaccine passport to do what they want and don’t want to wait to find out. Their reasoning is entirely lacking in empathy for others itself, yet you say I am supposed to have empathy for them. Well sorry, nobody is perfect and I do not have much empathy for that standpoint.

I feel upset as I was promised freedom if we got vaccinated and now feel duped.

We will get it, but only when we have mass immunity in the population. We're not quite there yet, but in another couple of months the vast, vast majority of people will be double jabbed.

And we will still not have our freedom Sad

@Deliaskis - and it was the OP’s comments that made me see red, so I guess we are both only human! You are right that the tone of my post was harsh (because I believed the OP was being disingenuous and making political points). If I felt someone was genuinely anxious and upset about having the vaccine, I would not have addressed them like that. Crying for an entire day, despite not suffering from anxiety, because you want to be at the front of the queue if there are vaccine passports and because you don’t want to feel left out, even though you think there is no scientific reason for you to be encouraged to have the vaccine, just didn’t ring true to me. It felt like the post was a vehicle for stirring other people’s doubts up. I was therefore injudicious in my choice of words! Neither of us should have lost our temper.

I did cry after my jab as I don't feel I am vulnerable to the virus but had to take it on the chin all the potential side effects. I have 2 young dc and can't look after them if I'm sick. I'm also tired from zero social support over the past year!

Ok fair enough nobody knows how coronavirus will effect them but vaccines are a personal choice and should stay that way. No vaccine passports!

It's funny when house prices are way too high for young people - something that doesn't effect the elder generation as much - were told to get on with it.

We've been on our own for years as young people. Dwindling public funding , expensive education , increasing house prices. Now the older generation need our help - I just hope we aren't dumped after all of this?!
