DS15 has got it. What should I expect now

DS has tested positive and the rest of our family are all isolating. I would like to know what is normal symptom wise so that I can reassure him that he will be OK soon and what to expect.

He already has headaches, dizziness, an itchy rash and a tongue that feels burnt.

Can anyone please tell me how long we should expect this to last and what might come next.

Also what are the signs to watch out for if it gets serious. We have an oximeter but DH doesn't trust it much.

TIA

For me I have just felt tired, dizzy, the odd high temp and still no dreaded cough. I have 3 more days of isolation but my chest hurts though.

At 15 he'll likely feel a lot better in a few days however you may find he gets occasional relapses every few weeks for a while (in ds1, also 15 the cough would come back, he'd get mouth ulcers and be very tired for 24 hours).

In adults the second week is often worse than the first but I've never heard of that in young people.

He may develop a cough or loose his sense of smell or get diarrhoea over the next few days. Or none of the above, or something else instead.

Why does you dh not trust the oximeter? They are pretty straightforward and reliable bits of kit. Worth having one in the house you do trust in case anyone else older gets it.

2 of my boys currently have it, on days 9 and 8 of isolation. Youngest 13 had a sore throat and was really tired then developed a cough, he's a lot better now, eldest, 18, l had a blocked nose as his main symptom then a headache, exhausted for days and now a sore throat which seems to be going finally, no cough. Me and DH both fully vaccinated and haven't caught it. Other DS already had it in January and he's negative too.

Sorry signs its serious:
High temp (over 40) that wont come down w paracetamol/ibruphrophen.

Fall in blood oxygen levels to below and persisting below 94 whilst awake.

Pains in chest, crushing feeling in chest.
Other sharp persistent pain esp in limbs and esp if accompanied by swelling/reddening (blood clots).

Fall in urine output (make sure he drinks plenty) esp if he is drinking.

But these ^ are all very unlikely in a 15 year old.

Oh and eldest has lost his sense of taste too.

Just to add, we have an Oximeter and I did find it reassuring when DS3 was coughing but then I do worry more about him as he has had surgery on his lungs as a toddler. He's fine now, just me that's scarred from it all.
