Covid vaccine - moving areas between 1st & 2nd

Does anyone know what happens if you move house and areas after you've had your 1st vaccine.
DS is currently in his Uni city 150 miles away and will hopefully soon be able to book his 1st vaccine. However, the contract on his house runs out next month so he's likely to move back home. Will he be able to rebook his 2nd appointment back near our/his home address even if his GP records are still in the Uni city/in transit between the 2 GPs? He's finishing Uni so won't be going back there unless he manages to get a job.
I was volunteering at our local GP led vaccine clinic (now closed) and one of the volunteers was telling me about a woman who had driven up to us from Cornwall (we're in the Midlands) as she wasn't able to change her 2nd jab to a location near to her new home.
Anyone have experience of moving between jab 1 and jab 2 who can advise how it works.

We have exactly this with our DD1 except she's in Scotland and we're in London... watching with interest!

Wilkolampshade surely this must have arisen a few times amongst older age groups already. Can't believe you have to travel back to the other area although at least our DS is still in England - must be further complicated by crossing the border!

I think it'll be fine if you book through the national NHS website, might be a bit more awkward if you book through a local GP.

Given when I first tried to book, the system was happy to offer me appointments hundreds of miles away, I cannot imagine there will be a problem.

Son had his first in wales at uni. They asked where he would be in 12 weeks time. As he now in England been told shouldn't be a problem. Send an a letter to his home address. He got a card saying which one he had.

I travelled 300 miles for my second rather than risk cancelling it and seeing if I could rebook closer to where I was or (dreaded third possibility) simply missing out on my second jab altogether.
Others have said it was easy to cancel online and rebook. I just didn’t want to take that chance but sat in A train for 5 hours (double masked).

bigbluebus · 08/06/2021 14:22

HeronLanyon That's what I'm hoping to avoid. I don't know what the vaccine centre options are near him but agree it might be easier if he books through the online booking/119 rather than through a link from his GP.

Also wondering. Dd is home atm but even if she gets her first by end June I doubt the second will be before she returns to uni at beginning of September.

My DS just cancelled his 2nd jab, put in the long reference number, entered in his new postcode and it allowed him to chose a centre based on the new postcode.

My DD (nhs) had to go back to same hospital she had the first jab in but that was a local vaccination because of her placement.

Thank you thecatsatonthewall It does sound as though making sure he books at one of the main centres in his area is the way to go.
