DH has purple rash 3 weeks after AstraZeneca vaccine

DH had AstraZeneca jab 3 weeks ago today.
This morning, purple spots have appeared on his chest like a small rash. He says they are tender to the touch.
He rang 111 and they rang back and told him to go to A&E.
He's just got back and said the doctor there told him it's unexplained and that there's nothing to worry about. The doctor actually apologised to him that 111 had sent him there! He said that if it gets worse then to see his GP tomorrow.
I'm concerned as we both think the doctor was quite dismissive. When you read side affects of the vaccine, the purple rash is a rare symptom of blood clots.
I said I think he should go to another hospital for a second opinion.
Am I overreacting? Should we wait till tomorrow to see what happens with the rash?
Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Sorry to say it but with the breathlesness

One girl at uni had a blood clot in her lung when we were doing finals...she was so stressed she didn't realise she was breathless.

I'd ask for a scan to be sure his lungs are clear.

I had no idea about the purple spot thing but just to say, you can chug along with breathlessness and not realise how bad it is unless you go running etc

I have similar to this - very small spots of blood under skin, about a mm if that spread out coming on after first AZ vaccine. Mine are red rather than purple. I have some larger ones appearing as well that are raised but I think the raised ones are cherry angiomas and fine.

I also have no headache and no obvious blood clot symptoms. Getting night sweats and had aches and pains and itchy skin but not sure what these blood spots are. Mine are quite far apart and I know normally my platelets are normal and I don't have issue with blood clotting but not been tested since getting these. I've restarted anti-histamines again and that is stopping the itching but nothing else though at least no more of these. The photos I saw show clusters though and mine are a dot here 20cms further a dot there mostly though sometimes 3 an inch apart.

I'm not too concerned for now but I am concerned about having a second vaccine the same. Would be interested to see what doctor reckons they are. I am 5 weeks past now and these maybe started after a week and I seem to get a few more each time I look but still not hundreds more like 30 or 40 of them, half raised, half flat.

These spots can also be caused by strain or being out in the sun. I have had the same and also had a and e refusing to do a blood test. I had bad intestinal cramps. So frustrating when a simple blood test would rule out it being caused by low platelets.

PurpleSunrise · 07/06/2021 00:20

Sorry OP, hope things are clearer tomorrow

Willyoujustbequiet · 07/06/2021 00:45

Unsure thank you

Namechange

No it was a few years ago now, possibly caused by food poisoning/e-coli caught from a restaurant that triggered it sadly.

scottgirl · 08/06/2021 10:51

unsure20223 how is he today?

Roonerspismed · 08/06/2021 10:56

Doctor sounds useless. Push for blood test urgently

Shelby10 · 08/06/2021 11:16

My DH had similar on his arm after his. Apparently nothing to worry about. He’s having his second jab next week but he will mention it to them when he goes.

Silkiecats · 08/06/2021 15:43

I just called my doctor about mine and they are going to run blood tests on Thursday though appeared more concerned by night sweats than the blood spots. They said to get in touch earlier if there is any strange bleeding like from gums, nose, bruising and are testing platelets. I said platelets were fine in the past and he said that doesn't mean anything, they can change. He thinks its probably hormonal or hot weather but wants to check things to do with lymph system. Said fine to take anti-histamines and use creams if itching.

Daisiesarebeautiful · 08/06/2021 16:19

Call the GP. Everyone I know who's had worrying symptoms post vaccine has been sent to hospital for tests immediately by their GP for bloods/scans.

Cravendale · 08/06/2021 19:48

How is he now?

Cant believe how dismissive they are being

Roonerspismed · 08/06/2021 20:05

Well if they are going to push this vaccine on people at low risk from covid for the greater good, the least they can do is care for people who might be seriously ill
From it

SirVixofVixHall · 08/06/2021 20:09

I am shocked they didn’t run bloods OP. How is he now ?

ICanSmellSummerComing · 08/06/2021 21:37

Op I feel appalled by the service he's receiving.
I'm reluctant to have my second jab, I'm going to be an anxious paranoid mess and the very least I'd like to think is the hospital will run a bloody blood check for me if I displayed those issues

Op can you go with him and push, I know with my dh he under plays how sick he is?

AvaCallanach · 08/06/2021 21:42

If it's any consolation, the purpura from thrombocytopenia tend to appear on lower legs and feet at first (following gravity)

These are my ds' legs when he developed itp after a different vaccine.

Can he get his GP to run a blood test? Mine said the blood test is for low platelets and they said its OK if its not low but if it is they want further tests. I think mine will be normal as its not in clusters / no bruising / higher body but I definitely think its best to check pre a second vaccine. Sorry your son had that Ava

unsure20223 · 09/06/2021 06:42

Hi everyone, DH decided to see how he went and in fact the marks have started to fade and his chest isn't feeling as tender.
No idea what it was - but very glad it's going away!

Looks like petechiae caused by low platelets. I'd go back and ask for blood tests.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 09/06/2021 18:41

@unsure20223

There is an article in today's daily mail about this please look it up

ittakes2 · 09/06/2021 23:12

OP is the rash non blanching. If it is I would ask your doctor for a low platlet count blood test even though the rash is fading now. Blood rashes need to be taken seriously - unfort A&E can be a bit hit and miss. My son broke his nose once and the new A&E doctor's advice was he could play sport later that day if he felt up to it! Although the nose specialist we later took him to obviously said no way.
