Can over 40s book second dose at 8 weeks yet?

Just that - reports say over 40s can book second dose at 8 weeks instead of 12 but not sure if that’s ‘live’ on the NHS booking system yet. Mine’s booked for mid-July but nervous to cancel it and try to book for earlier if it’s not live yet. Has anyone tried?

No, think it’s just press speculation at present.

JustMeAndWheatley · 06/06/2021 08:59

Know lots of people who have done this, including dh.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 06/06/2021 09:00

Yes loads of people have done it and there have been several threads about it on here including another one this morning.

PomRuns · 06/06/2021 09:03

Yes my DH was able to change his date online.

myrtleWilson · 06/06/2021 09:18

I did it a couple of nights ago, brought 2nd dose forward from 11 to 8 weeks.

Schulte · 06/06/2021 10:36

From what I’ve seen and heard so far it’s easy for AZ but not the other vaccines.

Mybestusername · 06/06/2021 10:39

Yes, I was able to cancel mine and rebook (AZ)

Tatum1234 · 06/06/2021 10:43

I'm pretty sure research has shown AZ to be most effective at 12 weeks apart so hot that reason I wouldn't try to shift mine sooner

Nicnic91 · 06/06/2021 10:48

I’ve done this a couple of weeks ago - brought ours forward from 5 July to 11 June.

myrtleWilson · 06/06/2021 11:04

@Notstrongandstable I had a chat with another poster a couple of nights ago who had done research on antibodies from AZ and was comfortable bringing her vaccine fwd to 10 weeks. My decision was predicated on the potential extra benefit versus the potential risk of delta increasing and the lower level of protection one dose of AZ brings

BogRollBOGOF · 06/06/2021 15:19

Mine's been shifted to this week (40)

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 06/06/2021 15:22

There are drop in clinics here. But you still need to have 8 weeks since your first dose (I’m only at 6 weeks).

Cantchooseaname · 06/06/2021 15:23

My husband did- about a week ago. He was able to move it forwards about a month, I think. He’s 41, had az

MancyNitford · 06/06/2021 15:26

Yes, I have, moving it from 11 weeks to 8 and a bit weeks. (AZ)

Longdistance · 06/06/2021 15:35

We had walk ins. You just walk-in in to the centre with your card. Look up your local council website as that’s where the information was and on Facebook. I was just over 9 weeks between jabs and cancelled my other appointment after I sat in my car for five minutes. All good. Had AZ.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 06/06/2021 15:37

Yes in Scotland AZ and P available. Walk in clinics in Glasgow and Clyde. Info on NHS site and www.nhsggc.org.uk/your-health/health-issues/covid-19-coronavirus/for-patients-the-public/covid-vaccinations/drop-in-vaccinations/

halfgirlhalfturnip · 06/06/2021 15:39

It says 10 weeks but a friend told me it was 8 and when I went she said I was 8 weeks 1 day so just in their radar of 8 weeks

looptheloopinahulahoop · 06/06/2021 19:20

I was called for mine this week which is 8 weeks, I think people have been changing their appointments for some time now.

DH had his second dose today and said he was told I could take myself over there today and get done, but it's not 8 weeks for me yet so I'm leaving it until my planned appointment (which is Wednesday anyway, so only a few days).

MargaretThursday · 06/06/2021 20:25

I've been called for mine with a gap of only 5 weeks. I've checked with the surgery and it isn't a mistake, nor are we in an area with India/delta variant.
