When will contact isolation stop? Daily tests instead?

Having been isolated myself plus both my children [eldest a few times], wonder when/ if contacts will able to just do daily LFT tests instead soon? Only isolating if testing positive or have symptoms.
I do hope so!
Could this happen on the 21st of June?

He's part of the trial in daily testing rather than isolating isn't he?
DinkyDaisy · 06/06/2021 10:36

Ah maybe got that wrong...

Here it is:

Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove has been alerted by NHS Test and Trace to say he had come into contact with someone with coronavirus.

The senior Conservative had recently returned from Portugal after supporting Chelsea in the Champions League final.

Instead of self isolating for 10 days, Mr Gove will take daily Covid tests as part of a pilot scheme designed to measure testing effectiveness.

The exercise is aimed at finding safe alternatives to self-isolation.

The Cabinet Office earlier confirmed reports that Mr Gove had been alerted by the NHS Covid app.

They have done this since September in my school. In December we had the highest amount of corona virus cases in the entire county, it ended up that everyone had to isolate anyway as if was spreading through the school.

Diggingaholeformyself · 06/06/2021 10:44

Daisy I'm reasonably sure it's not a pilot scheme of 1, they'll be others taking part too...

DinkyDaisy · 06/06/2021 10:45

Our School still makes pupils isolate.
Been horrible for my eldest who has been isolated a number of times yet tested negative throughout on LFT

Yes- but great if you can take part!!!!!!

Rest of us have lives on hold....

Why the !!!!!!!?

A pilot scheme has to start somewhere, so what if one person is a cabinet minister? Seems a complete non event to get wound up by.

If the pilot is successful then it'll be rolled out nationwide I'd imagine.

Even with daily testing, what will the age range be as even primary schools are currently reliant upon parents testing rather than children themselves. Since the news seems to be forewarning us that 12 years+ will be vaccinated (or offered vaccines at any rate) before long, surely it’s only going to be young children (currently deemed too young to regularly test) and the unvaccinated that the virus will go through.

CasparBloomberg · 06/06/2021 10:49

I am currently isolating due to having Covid. We were sent the invite to take part in the trial when we were at first just close contacts. However participation in the trial only allowed if not related to a variant of concern and over 18s only.

DinkyDaisy · 06/06/2021 10:54

In a wound-up exclamation mark sort of mood...

Anyway- hope the trial is successful and children included when rolled out as secondary do tests anyway.

Thanks

I agree dinkydaisy it's one rule for others, very convenient indeed. The conservative government don't really care much about what is happening in schools. A recent report said the UK is giving £50 extra per child to catch up on lost learning, whilst other countries are around £2,500. Says it all really.

Have you see any of the threads noble giraffe has? all make an interesting read around what is going on in school.

DinkyDaisy · 06/06/2021 11:24

Have seen noble giraffe about...
I have 2 at secondary and I work in education. Just fed up at the moment and worry a bit for my eldest in particular who could do without yet another isolation.

I thought isolation was due to the virus potentially taking time to actually show itself on testing.
