LF positive so just taken him for PCR test.

ME and DH have done LF and negative

  • DS in his room isolating - will put his meals outside
  • We have a downstairs toilet - we can use and he can use upstairs bathroom but how do we go on about using the bath if he's using it

If he has the Delta variant isn’t that more transmissible than previous variants. So the stories of families all in close proximity not all catching COVID last year may not be so relevant.

We would probably do the same as OP if DS, also 16, was in the same position. We wouldn’t if he was 6

I’d think that if you lived with someone and didn’t isolate and didn’t get it, that would be because you were going to just not get it, or get it asymptomatically and not know you’d had it. So I don’t think the more transmissible variants will really make a different in this situation.

LF tests can pick up cold virus apparently so may even be that will just have to see

This claim has shown to be false.

The rate of false positives is actually quite low. There are more issues with false negatives with LFTs. They are more likely to pick up cases with high viral loads than marginal cases.

The majority of people who test positive with an LFT are also tested positive on PCR, I'm afraid.

GloomyWaters · 06/06/2021 11:31

Yes Im expecting it to be positive

@GloomyWaters Was it positive? How is he?

GloomyWaters · 07/06/2021 10:38

Yes positive. Absolutely fine...just a bit of a cough nothing major though. Got result last night.

Track and Trace rang at 8am...going through his symptons and whereabouts etc.

Told us to go for a pcr test although we are doung lateral flow but told us so we've booked for today

That's a good idea to get tested as well. Also good that's he's ok.

I'm dreading the day my dds bring it home from school. I feel it's only a matter of time 😩

Track and trace were pretty quick weren't they!

ILookAtTheFloor · 07/06/2021 14:22

Surely the request for you all to take PCR tests may inflate the 'attack rate' of the Delta variant (assuming it's that) as when I was a close contact of a case we were told not to get tested unless you personally developed symptoms.

GloomyWaters · 07/06/2021 15:00

I queried it and said we were doing LFT at home and both felt fine but were told to go get one as no symptons doesnt mean you dont have it

if you were really ill in bed with covid you wouldn't want constant phone calls and being asked a load of questions and being told to bake banana bread, or do they think no-one is ill.

My friend and her family recently had Covid and said the constant calls and lengthy questioning was actually a distraction from feeling terrible, and it was good to know they would follow up. She did tell them to go away once when she was really bad ('just' flu-like illness, but felt dreadful), and they said they would hang up but would call again later. They're tenacious!

My daughter got it at Xmas. We didn't do anything differently and her sister got it (they share a room) but nobody else did going by test results at that time. She spends most of her time in her room anyway but didn't isolate and I didn't clean any more than usual. Was mild for both girls.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/06/2021 19:59

I'm waiting for the result of a test and I just asked DH if he's happy sharing the bedroom with me or if he wants to sleep on the sofa. I thought it was considerate of me to give him the option but apparently not!

Frazzled2207 · 07/06/2021 20:03

Pleased to hear he nis broadly ok.
I think you’re being sensible overall. Hopefully the rest of you will avoid getting it.

strangeshapedpotato · 07/06/2021 20:13

Surface transmission of covid is no longer thought to be a significant factor. Most transmission is likely to be airborne.

Clearly good hygiene is important, e.g. washing hands before eating etc, but otherwise, your best safety measure would be to keep windows open and the house well-ventilated.
