Is now my only chance to have the vaccine?

I’ve had my first dose of AZ but have decided against my second dose.

I don’t want to remain partially vaccinated but am aware mixing vaccines is not yet approved (UK)
If it were I would happily accept a different one.

Does anyone know where this leaves me? Will I always just have to remain partially vaccinated?

What about if there’s boosters, will I not qualify because I’ve only had one dose?

@Dustyboots

I've never smoked. I don't drive a car and I've never taken the pill either.
Have you been on a plane?
Dustyboots · 04/06/2021 23:06

I haven't been on a plane since the year 2000. And even then it was 10 years before that I'd flown.

I hate flying - am very scared of flying.

Why do you mention flying? I thought flying was a lot safer than driving in a car and that I was very unreasonable to be fearful of it.

I was anxious about the second dose but like a PP felt the benefits outweighed the risks quite significantly- risk for second dose is tiny and being half vaccinated offers much less protection plus there’s no knowing when/if you’d get offered a different one.

I think at the moment boosters are only planned for elderly and CEV. I believe you can only have 2 Viral vector jabs (something to do with the way they work, for efficacy reasons) so the booster would likely be Pfizer

Blood clots from flying are a thing. Flying for more than four hours holds a risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (from 2 to 10 percent of people). For a while airlines were encouraging passengers on long haul flights to get up and walk around...and then 9/11 happened and they stopped. You might be scared of flying but most people hop on planes without a moment's thought. This blood clot thing from the AZ has been blown way out of all proportion. A friend of mine...post Covid has lost all of the movement in the fingers of his left hand..this is since last June. He's 32.

Personally I dislike the term 'partially vaccinated'. You've been vaccinated and hopefully that will have given you a good level of immunity.

You can not like all you like, but the Delta variant is now dominant, and one dose gives you 17% protection against symptomatic disease.

Two doses gives you around 70% protection.

Get your second dose OP.

This isn't true. Studies have shown it isn't a problem: www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/study-shows-astrazeneca-vaccine-works-well-third-booster-ft-2021-05-19/.

Every day you interfere with nature rather than letting it takes it's course. Just cooking food, using a fridge or brushing your teeth is interfering with nature to ensure your health.
