Visiting the UK from an amber list country for less than ten days

Does anyone have direct recent experience of whether this is possible?

I have elderly and not particularly healthy parents who ask me every phone call when I am visiting but I cannot take almost a full month off work to visit - its a 1.5 hour flight so obviously I didn't plan for visits to require a month off. (My adopted country requires 14 days of home quarantine if returning from the UK as its a country of varients of concern).

Is it possible to fly back out of the UK after 3 or 4 or 5 days, or is sitting out a full ten days (or taking a test on day 5 - but as day of arrival is day 0, day 5 is actually really day 6 and the result likely to take 24 hours, so that is 7 days) required before a person can get back on a plane out of the UK?

I can't find this information on the government website as obviously its geared at people starting and finishing journeys from the UK.

Has anyone recently flown in and out with a stay of under 7-10 days?

I'm fully vaccinated but aware this is not taken into consideration whatsoever for some reason.

I'm sure I recall, though it was some months ago that one of the reasons you could break isolation was to travel to an airport to get a flight to go to another country so you could come back from somewhere and then go somewhere else a couple of days later.

I haven't done this but I'm sure I remember it from the government exemptions but it was a while ago.

You can leave again before the 10 days are up

www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england

"If you’re travelling to England for less than 10 days
If you’re travelling to England for less than 10 days, you will need to quarantine for the whole of your stay. You must travel directly to your place of quarantine when you arrive in England and directly from your place of quarantine to the port or airport when you leave. You should follow safer travel guidance and avoid public transport if possible.

You must still book day 2 and day 8 travel tests."

You must still book day 2 and day 8 travel tests.

This is very important.

Last time I flew back from Spain, this guy at the boarding gate said he was coming to the UK on business and would be back the following day.

Hadn’t booked the tests and wasn’t allowed to board.

I know it doesn’t make sense, but it doesn’t matter, they won’t allow you into the plane.

I know someone who’s done this. He recently flew in from either Italy or Spain...was in England less than ten days and flew out to France. I’ve no idea what he did for tests. His travel is all work related if that makes a difference.

Thank you very much! That's really helpful information! I saw that day 2 and day 8 tests both also have to be booked and paid for by people coming from green countries (who only have to take the day two one, they just don't use the day 8) so it definitely doesn't make fully thought out sense - or cynically is a money making opportunity... Still it is what it is. At least in my adopted country all tests are completely free of charge for citizens and residents regardless of/ without any reason, so its only the UK tests I'd have to pay for.

Thank you all!

Would you keep a distance from your parents though? I wouldn't want to risk it if I had flown. But if you quarantine elsewhere then you won't be able to leave the building to see them anyway.

A relative recently flew from Amber Country and did day 5 test exactly 24 hours X 5 after landing. So landed on Monday at 8am and took test Saturday 8am. It then took about 1.5 days to come back.

Crowtooyo my parents are both fully vaccinated and aren't keeping distance from their local school attending grandchildren, so contact with me (fully vaccinated, will wear FFP2 masks in transit - I'm used to wearing them on 12 hour shifts anyway) shouldn't be an unreasonable risk. We're not really huggy / touchy anyway and tbh yes, I could fairly naturally maintain a 1.5 meter distance aside from initial greetings and goodbyes. Luckily they have a reasonable size house with more than one bathroom.

That's fair enough :) I kind of forget that a double vaccine is a pretty safe bet these days. Good luck and I hope you get to see them
