I've stopped watching the news, I used to look forward to it.

Then all I did was watch the news, like everyone getting totally embroiled in the updates. Obviously most people did because we were worried and needed that guidance.

My homepage on phone tells me major stuff, and I'm trying to get on with my simple days, one at a time.

Daily 6 o'clock news has stopped.

My DD is away at uni and doesn't have a TV.

When she's been home she's said she's not seen proper news for x amount of weeks, and when she watches it now it's just not helping her well being.

I took this onboard and stopped.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 09:45

I have come to the conclusion that watching minimal news bulletins, doing what you want now (within reason, not advocating massive parties but going out and about within the rules) and ideally ignoring this crazy board which attracts a lot of misery lovers (need to find a way to hide it as I keep getting sucked in) is the best way to deal with it for now.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 09:46

I am the same @thesunwillout I used to have BBC news on pretty much all day every day. It just makes things worse now.

Topseyt · 04/06/2021 09:59

This is why I stopped watching every news bulletin and briefing a long time ago.

We can't keep locking down and destroying people's legitimate businesses and livelihoods. We can't keep people restricted to their homes, not all of which are large houses with big gardens for outdoor areas.

I'm not a big socialiser, but I want the option to do so. I like to see shops open and town centres less like ghost towns. I like to walk along, have a coffee and a browse. I can do that now and I will be bloody unimpressed if it is taken away again.

The best answer is to not be completely glued to the news and the statistical analysis. That way lies madness.

Topseyt · 04/06/2021 10:12

I should also have said in my post that my interest in the PHE technical briefings has now totally waned, apart from occasionally checking the daily infection rates, which I certainly don't do daily anyway (more like every week or so).

I found you just can't live like that. So don't do it. Just get out and about, doing what you can do, which is plenty now. Use common sense.

@RedcurrantPuff

Same here, I'm trying to scale life back a bit.
Like concentrating on every day things.
I remember when I was a student, I had a record player, books, no outside interference.
I must have happily spent evenings being much more relaxed. No phones, internet, intrusion.

Mind you there were nightclubs !

@Yesyoucantell

I went out for dinner and cocktails with friends last night. Just back from a weekend in London, stayed overnight, used the tube and ate out every meal in crowded restaurants.

Unless you have health issues then there's no reason not to get out there and enjoy life.

I understand if anxiety is an issue so apologies if that's the case.

Have I missed something or are things the same as they were a few days ago??

I’m with you . It’s time to get out and live

Been all over
Done all sorts
I’ve written a long post on the other depression thread if you are interested
