Does anyone know the recommended timings between having their first and second Pfizer vaccine now please?

I have tried to Google but am finding conflicting/older information.

I don't know the recommended timings but DD was offered a second jab 7 weeks and 4 days after her first but when she got to the centre they refused to give it as they said it should be 8 weeks minimum.

The manufacturer tested it at 3 week interval and recommends that.

The UK government with JCVI support extended the interval to 12 weeks. They did so based on a need to widen the number of people with some protection and the widely accepted view that vaccines are more effective given a longer intervals.

The findings in the UK for Pfizer and AZ is that optimal efficacy and effectiveness was at 11-12 weeks.

The UK government and JCVI have recommended reduced the interval to 8 weeks for over 50’s to increase immediate efficacy and effectiveness in the face of surges in cases.

Therefore in the UK you will get it at between 8-12 weeks. If you miss this window then as soon as possible afterwards.

Vaccinator here. Optimum is 4 weeks.
Earliest is 3.latest 12

Roussette · 03/06/2021 13:01

I'm in an older age group and it was 3 days away from 12 weeks for me.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 03/06/2021 13:04

I had my first in February and the second after 12 weeks.

My 32yo friend just had her first and they told her it would be 8 weeks to her second.

Thank you all for replying.

Even on this thread there are various replies and experiences. I am in the older age group and have just had my first vaccination, I have been advised not to return to work until I have had the second as I am currently recovering after a lung operation. That is why I was wondering about the time frame so I could plan when I am able to go back to work.

I can see that Hyacinth88 is a vaccinator and says a lesser period between the doses but others say they were denied it before 8 weeks, so it is quite confusing.

Thank you again for your help.

39 days here in France.

LemonTT · 03/06/2021 16:13

The UK period is 8 to 12 weeks. The national booking system won’t adjust to anything else. And Pfizer is not routinely supplied for second doses atm. It gets supplied at the interval period.

If you need a shorter interval, get advice from your GP who can arrange it sooner. The local ccg can do this as well.

motogogo · 03/06/2021 16:14

Dd had her 9 weeks apart (Pfizer)

RaspberryCoulis · 03/06/2021 16:15

Have just had my second appointment through, exactly 8 weeks after I had the first dose.

Theonlyoneiknow · 03/06/2021 16:17

DH has just been called for his second AZ - 10 week gap (early 50s)

Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences with me, I really appreciate it.

I'm in Ireland and had my 1st and 2nd Pfizer 4 weeks apart. That has been the norm for all getting Pfizer here. AstraZeneca is 7-8 weeks apart .

UberMullet · 03/06/2021 19:03

I'm in Belgium and had mine 4 weeks apart. Dh and dd who were vaccinated by Pfizer directly had theirs 3 weeks apart.

SOT3 · 04/06/2021 09:53

Thank you, as so many posters say they have had their second dose 4 weeks apart I think this is what I will aim to book for myself, if possible, as at least I know now from this thread that it is safe to have it in that time period.
