Saw this online earlier on. Just as I was feeling a bit more positive about things.

Beebityboo · 01/06/2021 21:21

Oh GOODY

XenoBitch · 01/06/2021 21:27

No surprise. The next big, proper earth shattering pandemic will be from animals too... probably to do with our own over use of antibiotics.

Thehawki · 01/06/2021 21:27

Yaaaaay

namechanged984630 · 01/06/2021 21:52

It hasn't transmitted to any of his contacts and the article itself says it's low risk

They said this about Covid too.
PlantDoctor · 01/06/2021 22:12

@XenoBitch While the overuse of antibiotics is horrendously bad, the next pandemic is likely to be a virus such as flu, which isn't affected by antibiotics

MercyBooth · 01/06/2021 22:16

Yeah Cos the world hasnt suffered enough

My money is on a civilisation ending pandemic, be it viral or bacterial. To be honest, we deserve it. Nature always finds a way of culling species.

Katya213 · 01/06/2021 22:28

Yee ha, round two!!!

WhatMattersMost · 01/06/2021 22:29

Animal to human infection has been happening frequently.

What we need to watch out for is animal-to-human-to-human infection.

Stay frosty.

IEat · 01/06/2021 22:45

We’re all bloody doomed. The joy

Thelm · 01/06/2021 23:09

After this last year can anyone muster up the energy to care? If the aliens came down now and started taking over it would be a welcome change.

Titsywoo · 01/06/2021 23:11

Out of interest why does it almost always seem to be China where these viruses originate?

Alex908 · 01/06/2021 23:16

Well are we not asking for this with factory farming?

Cassandraprobs · 01/06/2021 23:30

China has almost 20% of the world's population in a relatively small space - besides India no other population comes anywhere near so it's partly sheer numbers. To scale it down, if you lived in a street where all the houses had families of 2-4 people except one with 30 people you'd know which one to bet on for where the lice epidemic would start.
Legoandloldolls · 01/06/2021 23:36

Chinese also like to eat their food fresh and see it alive. It's been a long time since I went to China so maybe I'm out of date here. But living in close proximity to live stock also helps spread.

However much we dont get wet markets, I'm pretty sure the Chinese think we are pretty gross eating stuff so long dead.

FedNlanders · 01/06/2021 23:40

Ffs

Kokeshi123 · 02/06/2021 02:10

Flu viruses tend (not always) to come from China due to a number of factors. There are a lot of people there for a start, so, maths. But another factor is the tendency for pigs and poultry (ducks, chickens and so on) to be raised on the same small farms. The virus typically originates in birds, then undergoes a kind of "mixing" process in the bodies of pigs which makes it capable of infecting humans.

This may change to the fact that China is now belatedly starting to consolidate pig farming within larger specialized farms as a result of the mass swine disease that swept through China in 2019. Thus far, however, most Chinese farms have tended to be very small, the legacy of land collectivisation under Mao, which China has been reluctant to change due to concerns about sudden rapid influxes of the population into cities, which could destabilize the country and result in the CCP's rule being challenged. Small farms tend to have a variety of animals knocking about, rather than specializing in one type.

Pivotthesofa · 02/06/2021 02:26

FFS I was starting to feel more positive
Is this the start of something do we think ? Or a one off fluke. The fact that China has admitted it concerns me after Covid... if they are saying one person is it likely to be more?

Gingernaut · 02/06/2021 06:12

Many of these human to animal transmission cases don't add up to much, but it surely means that China hasn't learned from Covid-19

Hygiene and truly horrible animal husbandry have combined (AGAIN) to create the circunstances needed for another disease to transfer.

a friends is an epidemiologist and says their are expecting 'a big one' at some time in the future.
covid, whilst scary and devastating wasn't 'the big one'.

NannyAndJohn · 02/06/2021 06:25

Covid will look like a doozy compared to our next pandemic.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 02/06/2021 06:28

This is a bit if a derail, but what worries me is dogs eating the corpses in India and the virus jumping on dogs.
And now this.
