Has anyone been vaccinated in a mosque?

I'm booked in to get vaccinated on Thursday in our local Mosque.

I'm just wondering what the procedure is for this? I was assuming it would work like any other vaccination centre until my partner questioned whether I should not be walking in there in a summer dress for example to be respectful of the place of worship. Obviously don't want to be offensive. Has anyone gotten vaccinated in a mosque? I'm not sure if I'll be going inside or whether they've set something up outside in the car park for example. I'm just assuming it'll be inside in a hall of sorts. Thanks!

I received my 2nd vaccine at the local mosque so had the same concerns. It turns out that the vaccine centre was actually in the prayer school that is part of the mosque 'complex' but not actually in the mosque itself.

I was covered up and had a hooded top on in case I needed to cover my head. It wasn't necessary though.

Thanks for sharing this Smile I was wondering whether to take things to cover up just incase too.

Well, you will have to get your arm out for the vaccination.
I'm fairly sure it will be in a hall or porta cabin. They wont want shoes all through the actual mosque either.
Maybe wear a longer dress if you have one and are concerned, but I'm sure it will be fine.
It's a great way of widening acceptance of the vaccination. Round my parents there was also community testing done at the mosque, and I didnt hear anything about dress requirements for that.

Hi, I can't answer your question, but also have my first vaccine booked on Thursday in a Mosque and also had wondered the same. Are you in Glasgow? Everyone else I know has had theirs at the SECC/hydro but I'm at the central Mosque. I'm sure they would include guidance if there were certain rules, but would be interested to hear if anyone else has had theirs at a mosque.

SamMil · 31/05/2021 18:07

If this is a vaccination centre, I'd imagine a lot of the general public will be a lot less considerate than you, so they probably don't expect specific clothing.

It wouldn't hurt to wear something covering shoulders etc though, to avoid any worry Smile

Vaccine1231 · 31/05/2021 18:12

@Herbiefriel no I'm in London. And it's a smaller more local mosque as oposed to a big main one.

I think I'll wear trousers and a shirt and bring a cardigan to cover up. It's a "pop up" vaccination centre so not really sure what that means, I guess it's only a temporary thing. I would have thought the NHS site would have specified if any specific requirements were needed to attend that centre as well.

I'm excited to be finally getting my vaccination!! Smile

You are going to your assigned location for necessary medical care. Why would you consider the need to capitulate to religious control of women’s bodies? It makes no difference if you are in a mosque, church, synagogue, community hall, or hospital.

This. Nobody will expect any kind of dress code from people. Wear what you normally would.
newnortherner111 · 31/05/2021 18:19

OP I think being respectful in the place you are going to for your vaccination is a reasonable thing to do.

rainbowruthie · 31/05/2021 18:21

I would have loved to have been vaccinated in a Mosque, mine was in an old disused Debenhams Grin not quite the same somehow

eurochick · 31/05/2021 18:21

What @Castlepeak said. They've agreed for the space to be used for a community project. You are not visiting it as a mosque.

Mindymomo · 31/05/2021 18:28

Here in Woking, Surrey, the local Mosque has been used for vaccinations.

Grapesoda7 · 31/05/2021 18:31

I got my 2 vaccs at the local Mosque, but it was the community hall that was used, not the actual mosque. It's just like having your jab in a community centre or medical centre.

Disused Debenhams Grin yes not quite the same!

A friend was vaccinated in a community centre in Stamford Hill - the volunteers, clerks, vaccinators and doctor were all ultra-orthodox Jews, male and female. All very smooth and efficient.

The patients of course were just a cross-section of the local population.

I've been into the Glasgow mosque on one of those "doors open" day things. In the actual mosque, the men are downstairs, the women upstairs. I was not asked to cover my head. Many of the women showing us around didn't have their heads covered.

They have a large hall adjoining the main mosque which they use for functions and events. I would imagine the jabs will be in there. It's like when they say people are being vaccinated at Twickenham - well yes they are, but not in the stands or on the pitch.

Enigma007 · 01/06/2021 18:41

Very respectful and reasonable way to approach this. If its hot wear a long dress with a cardigan just to be on the safe side.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 01/06/2021 20:10

I have volunteered in the local mosque ( not the hall) I was not asked to wear any specific clothing ( I checked first out of respectful courtesy )

Cailleach1 · 01/06/2021 22:49

Whether a cardi/scarf over it or not, I'd wear a t-shirt or short sleeved shirt/top/dress for the jab.

No messing around with sleeves.

I had my second jab at a large sports stadium - it's used for an indoor sport and we were on the equivalent of the pitch. It was quite surreal.

Shelddd · 02/06/2021 07:22

Insane to cover yourself for a publicly provided medical procedure in a secular first world supposedly free country.

Wear what you like.

They wouldn't even let you in the prayer hall anyway, not that they'd do a vaccine in there.
