DS' footy coach is positive. Wwyd?

DS was at football yesterday morning. He was on the bench for the first half and stood nearish to his coach. Outdoors.

At tea time his coach Whatsapped to say him, his wife and daughter have tested positive

Do we need to do anything with ds as a 'close contact' if a contact was outdoors and at least 1m distance?

The coach should not have been there if his family had taken a test.
The coach should not have been there if his family had taken a PCR test.
Amazing the OP isn't getting more info from the coach, he's the only one who can answer these questions!

@Diggingaholeformyself

Why are people getting all het up about the coach not isolating at home?

Because he tested positive Confused

Iggi999 · 30/05/2021 21:42

It's been a whole day since the news of the positive test and if the OP hasn't found out anymore now, she never will!

If it was our club we'd be going through the facts then making a decision. A 10 year old rarely gets in v close proximity with an adult for 15 min unless at home.
But the club Covid officer needs to assess it

I've just spent ten days isolating as a contact from going jogging. I thought being outside it was a bit ott but for track and trace its distance and time not inside or outside. My job involves working with vulnerable kids though so I am extra cautious - I have just read this weekend my chances were about 1 in 1000. Im also x 2 jabbed and still had to isolate.

I've been out and a out all weekend, I'll do my LFT this evening before going back to work tomorrow. If my test comes back positive then I'll let people know, I can't see in to the future sadly.

Lalliebelle · 31/05/2021 10:04

No need to isolate unless contacted by track and trace.

Workyticket · 31/05/2021 10:30

Still nothing from the club - no reply to my messages either

The parents all have to scan a QR code (I've never been - dp takes him) to get onto the site etc so assume dp would have been contacted if necessary

We've kept ds in the last few days but we've decided not to isolate him further.

@Diggingaholeformyself

Why the assumption is a LFT

Why the assumption is a LFT[/quote]
Because teachers, coaches, secondary school children and health care workers have to do LFT’stwice a week and the most common days are Wednesday and Sunday evenings or Wednesday & Saturday evenings.

It could be a pcr if course if perhaps they were due to attend an event or travel somewhere that required it. But unlikely.

@Workyticket

The coach IS POSITIVE

not sure why people are saying he isn't?

Not heard a thing from test and trace or the club. I have messaged them

So until you do, you carry on as normal. Chances of him having caught it outside are very small.
Comefromaway · 31/05/2021 17:17

So I don’t have a huge amount of knowledge on outdoor team sports but in terms of other out of school activities eg dance/performing arts what would happen is that the organiser would send out a watch and be aware type email/text if someone tested positive.

The lateral flow test should be followed up by a pcr and if that is positive then test and trace are informed both by the individual and the organisation. The club might be instructed to send out a notice to self isolate on behalf of test and trace like schools do. If the organiser can guarantee that a 2m distance was adhered to at all times, no need to isolate. The guidance for grass roots sports for coaches and match officials is to keep to social distancing where possible.

Whilst this is true it's also important to be sensible about it too. If you know you've had contact with someone who has tested positive you should still isolate even if T&T don't contact you, and definitely avoid anyone who may be vulnerable such as elderly grandparents, etc.

He tested positive AFTER the coaching session by the sounds of it though.

And if it was an LFT being done routinely he is likely not displaying symptoms at the point of doing the coaching.

I do mine in an evening on a Wednesday and Sunday. I may be out all weekend but only test Sunday evening - so then I'd need to let people know.

I'd tell people I'd had close contact with straight away, before I had the confirmatory pcr, I'd want my contacts to know so they can can decide to continue with their plans or not. I'd hope they'd use common sense and at least avoid contact with vulnerable people, even if they didn't self isolate unless t&t contacted them.

Don't forget T&T has its flaws - it relies on the person testing positive to let T&T know where they've been and who with, and to have added their details to any venues they've attended.

Frazzled2207 · 31/05/2021 22:07

I would carry on as usual unless contacted.
I thought if outside you'd only be a close contact if very close for a period of time like 20 minutes.
