We are going to see my in-laws next week who live in Wales.

We haven’t seen them for around 18mths (Dec 2019 was last face to face contact).

Over the last year my MIL has been very ill and tbh in January this year I began to wonder if she’d live long enough for us to see her again

She has now made a great recovery with the right treatment and is desperate to see us and her grandson.

We arranged it this week as DS is still in college so we have to follow school holidays etc.

We are staying with them as they have a house big enough for us all to have a bedroom each etc.

Plan is for me to look at Attendance Allowance etc while I am there as I complete these from time to time at work.

We will also be doing family stuff with both in laws such as lunches out etc.

However, SIL has suddenly said that we shouldn’t be staying with the in laws as they are only allowed one bubble which is SIL as she lives nearby,

Panicking now as I don’t want to do anything we shouldn’t be doing .

If it matters, both DH and I are fully vaccinated as are my in laws. I’m aware the risk of contracting the virus is lower but not definite and we know a friend has just tested positive despite having had both vaccines.

Can they form a bubble with us for a few days ...or is it one bubble for the whole of the lockdown/easing lockdown?

I would just go. Are people honestly still paying attention to the bollocks the government is coming out with?

Which government?

I’m paying attention to the stats, personally. We’re back at January levels of cases/hospital admissions increasing right now. Due to people basically doing what they want to do. So maybe a bit more attention is needed.

I think if I have correctly understood the information from the link, if MIL lives alone, then no.

newnortherner111 · 30/05/2021 12:37

Not made a mistake.

The OP states “in-laws”. So presumably MIL isn’t alone.

Where exactly are you talking about here? The lowest 7 day UK rate in January was 19,000, today the rate is under 2,500.

The lowest 7 day average for admissions in January was 2,500, today the rate is 125.

Now that is obviously nationally, so maybe you're talking about specific regional stats that you know are specifically relevant to the OP's areas, but they are so remotely not similar that you are looking very disingenuous to suggest it.

NavigatingAdolescence · 30/05/2021 19:28

I said “increasing”. As in the % increase per day.

sirfredfredgeorge · 30/05/2021 20:27

Cases in January decreased every day from the 9th, and only increased at any appreciable rate on the first few days of the month. So no, the increases are nothing like the decreases of Jan. So no, stop misleading people about the state.

Musntgrumble2021 · 30/05/2021 21:42

In Wales you can form one extended household and act normally with them. This is in addition to the support bubbles for those living alone so it might just be within the guidelines but check as I might be wrong.

If your SIL didn’t enter the house 10 days before and after then you’d def be within guidelines.

There are extra things you can do to minimise risk of a symptomatic spread:

  • get LFT tests
  • keep house well ventilated
  • sanitise things like light switches, bannisters, door handles etc.

Rates are low in most areas in Wales at the moment.
The end of restrictions is in sight. Just need to keep on top of new variants until we know how they respond to vaccine.

Enjoy your visit OP.
