Vaccinations messing with menstrual cycles

I caught the tail end of an article on the radio about how some women are experiencing menstrual changes after vaccination. I think they said it only affects one cycle.

It was interesting to me because I had a very short cycle in the days after my 2nd Pfizer jab. Despite being 50, my periods are usually still a very regular 28 days, but I only got 16 days between the one before and after the jab. I'd put it down to the start of menopause symptoms but....?

Anyone else? I didn't hear the bit about why they think this might be happening.

I had heard this (literally an hour after I had my vaccine!) But I had mine as normal, I do wonder if it depends where in your cycle you have the vaccine?

There have been about 50 threads on this already.

Oh. Sorry.

Mine was 2 weeks late after the 2nd jab and heavier/more painful than usual with more 'side effects' like fatigue and nausea that I've not experienced in years, mine have slowly been changing in recent years, getting lighter, shorter and with less symptoms (mid 40's) but are regular usually.
I'm waiting for this month's, not due quite yet, so I can't tell if it was a one off or something that'll last longer.

I am mid 40's though, and would expect my periods to start changing and messing around soon anyway, so I can't say if it was definitely the jab that caused it or anything else really. It wasn't a massive deal for me on the grand scheme of things.

I think maybe it may have been because I had a bit of a reaction the second time, temperature, feeling grotty and run down, like you sometimes do after a Vaccination for anything as your immune system responds. And that may have postponed things as I wasn't generally very well over the time I'd have been ovulating.

I've had weird periods since catching COVID in October. GP won't take it seriously and keeps trying to insist it's stress. Basically no period, and then maybe one day every 2 months where I nearly bleed to death. Literally uncontrollable bleeding. My last period was vaguely normal, but shorter and heavier than normal but I'll take that. Then jab. Bam. No period again 😭

OrangePowder · 28/05/2021 19:10

I didn't have any side effects at all from either jab, or so I thought.

Yes my period was about 5 days late after my second Pfizer jab, gave me a bit of a pregnancy scare as my cycles are always exactly 28 days! Seems to be back to normal now though.

DaffodilSunshine · 28/05/2021 19:28

I had a really short cycle when I had my second Pfizer jab but could be coincidental

@OrangePowder
Don't be sorry
I'm on day 17 of my period after 2nd Pfizer. I came on 5 days early day of the shot and haven't stopped bleeding since.

After my first one I had 2/3 days of extreme pain and bleeding like never before

feckwit · 28/05/2021 23:37

Mine after my first Pfizer was hellish. Really heavy, MASSIVE clots, pain, dizziness etc. This time after my second it has been not so bad but still heavier than usual.

Mitchellernie · 28/05/2021 23:39

If you broke a limb or had flu it would be perfectly normal to miss a period or have some unexpected bleeding. Same if you diet heavily for a month or suffer some kind of emotional trauma. It's your body saying "Whoa, I'm dealing with something else; no babies at the moment please!".
No surprise that a vaccination might give you a similar effect.
